speaking of the threats to "de-fund" the police, those threats may already be having an impact where they are directed:

"The Minneapolis Police Department will withdraw from police union contract negotiations, Chief Medaria Arradondo said Wednesday in announcing the first steps in what he said would be transformational reforms to the agency in the wake of George Floyd’s death.
Arradondo said thorough review of the contract is planned. He said the contract needs to be restructured to provide more transparency and flexibility for true reform. The review would look at matters such as critical incident protocols, use of force, and disciplinary protocols including grievances and arbitration.

He said it’s debilitating for a chief when there are grounds to terminate an officer and a third-party mechanism works to keep that person on the street.

“This work must be transformational, but I must do it right,” Arradondo said of reforms
    ."

"Arradondo sidestepped a question about whether he thought union head Bob Kroll, often seen as an obstacle to reform, should step down"

Kroll is extremely confrontational, obstinate, antagonistic, and a big believer in military police tactics and "active killer" training for police (includes the tactic used on George Floyd). He is one of the police union leaders that needs to be moved aside in order for true reforms to happen. And he represents the kind of obstacle that may only be overcome by the threat of de-funding.

We're trying, that's what the Defund movement and Trump's terrible approval rating are about. Glad you're on board with reforming the police and ending the Trump administration. Drain the swamp.

I think you're referring to a town where they reduced the financing of the police and focused it on other areas and the crime rate went down. I think I read about it at some time or another.

    Damn, I called that one!

Now that you read an opinion from a source you like you should look into it a little more for a more complete picture.

I wasn't setting policy, I was explaining how defunding police is neither about not having police nor about investing less into public safety.
