I still don't know how that works on defense. I am of the opinion that Zach can get out to defend the three point line and still have the agility and speed to get back to protect the paint, while Nurk and Whiteside seem to me to be a bit too big to move their size quickly enough to do the same... I do see that Nurk has slimmed down but again I'm just not sure he can be our post that closes on the three, now that the style of play demands that at least four out of the five players on court are able to.

 

If only one of them had the foot speed to not get destroyed guarding PFs.

 

Gives Nurk and Zach interchangeability in our double drags in transition instead of the defense knowing Zach is going to pop and Nurk will roll. Same logic can be applied to high-low situations as well.

And adding to your points about the 2 man game and also having a legitimate shooter at the 3 again...we saw a glimpse of how much more effective and versatile our thumb series (our base offense) can be having a combo of Rodney and Zach at the 3/4.

Besides the spacing benefits, it gives you another 2 man game option...you have to fight over the flare with Hood vs Hark...and that big or combo forward can't drop and protect against the pass as easily with Zach vs Aminu. Hood's post up ability allows you to flow into a post up off that flare screen like we would with Harkless. Tougher to switch that action as well since Aminu/Hark were more like sized and obviously not as skilled at taking advantage of mismatches as Hood/Collins.

Man, can't wait to see our team healthy again.

 

Offensely you might get away from it but defense it would difference story.

 

Even though it may not come as big of a surprise to us but Nurkic will probably be the most surprising player in the whole league in the restart. If he can come in and knock down 3s, that’s gonna surprise a lot of these teams cause they will not be expecting that. Yes he did. As we have seen from this video and other videos before the lockdown, Nurk has been showing a very nice shooting from the 3 point land. I expect that to be a part of his game moving forward in an attempt to have him be more skilled and less reliant on strength which hopefully in turn help him become less injury prone

 

It’s nice to shoot the three, but I still want to see him around the basket, too. He’s got a lot of skills down there, and I’d hate to see him turn into another Rasheed Wallace.

 

Yeah I agree with you. I think he will be a little more like Arvydas Sabonis. Nurk will still have that imposing post game he can always go to but with a 3 point game he can take the offense to the next level. This will also allow Collin to post up without being double team. The offense really does open up when your center can shoot 3s

 

yup. Whiteside can stick with AD and Nurk can handle McGee. I remember when Stotts played Meyers with Plumlee, so it’s not that crazy of an idea. Plumlee was more agile but he also doesn’t have Whitesides length which often makes up for a lot of things. Blowing by him doesn’t mean much. I remember when he was with Miami and Lillard would consistently get him on a switch and blow by him only to get his shot packed at the rim.

 

So we should play Nurk and Hassan together based off Nurkic hitting 4 threes in practice?

Neither one of them have come close to proving they can effectively space the court or guard PFs...
