Yeah, but you have to throw in the epithet too or the east coast tools would be talking about Or-e-gawn vs Or-e-gawn State in the Will-a-met Bowl.

You may as well go with “Wimpiest Mascots Bowl”.

I do think most people think of the American Civil War, so I don't think it's going too far. Americans are so nationalistic, egocentric and chauvinistic half the country couldn't find Europe on a map.

Maybe they could call it the "Oregon Civil War", "Oregon War Between the State" (singular), Oregon Civil War 2020, Oregon Civil War CXXIV, WW-CXXIV, and so on ;)

I'd suggest "Malice in the Pelouse" (French for "lawn" or "grass"), but WSU already uses the term Palouse (those farm boys can't spell I guess).

Anecdotally: I attended South Albany High School. Until a few years ago, the teams were called the "South Albany Rebels". The logo was a Confederate soldier and used the Confederate flag. That bothered the shit out of me even then. I argued then and forever after that if they wanted to keep the name, at least change the fucking logo to something commemorating the Revolutionary War instead. Virtually no one paid any attention to me LOL. (A situation that continues to this day.) Now they are the RedHawks. All they kept was the color. I'll take it.

If I wasn't clear, I am in favor of calling it something else. IMO, the easiest way to do that is to create and name a trophy. Like the Willamette Cup, with a trophy that looks like a giant glass of micro-brew!

    The Herb Bowl!

Locals can call it the Marijuana Bowl when the NCAA isn't looking.

There's a lot of hemp being grown in the valley (and in Central Oregon) these days.

Play for a big "hemp" leaf shaped trophy.

It wasn't meant literally, but I do think this move would be much tougher to make if sports were on the front burner right now. It's opportunistic on several fronts.
