According to some on here, because if your views, you are a pariah.

...stand your ground and don't let the bastids win.

Yes, Houston is over capacity and growing. Arizona and Florida aren't far behind.

and more cases are happening at a record rate and in some areas more than what happened in the initial run. Quit listening to trump's it will just go away mantra and follow the guidelines by wearing your mask and social distancing.

Can't believe you actually drug this up again.

Take your head out of the sand and wake up and smell the coffee....and judging from your recent comments, if you have any friends, they likely have covid19.

Check back in a couple of weeks and pose your question again. Not only is our POTUS in denial, but evidently many of our citizens are too.

The thing about the "warm weather" myth, is that if it were true we would not have had this recent surge in new cases to begin with...it's been warm for quite awhile now.

And the hardest hit areas are along the southern border where it is much warmer than most places.

I think Kate Brown is waiting to see the reports of Oregonians on Fourth of July. If people are getting together, not social distancing and not wearing masks, she will close everything down Sunday. If people can manage to behave properly maybe we stay where we are at

If people don't follow the rules now what makes you think that they will do it later?

    some are

and there are several things at work here to. To start with, the average time for test results to be returned to the patient and counted officially is 6-9 days. So the numbers you're seeing daily run about a week behind the infection rate. The incubation period is anywhere from 2-14 days. Hospitalizations tend to occur 7-20 days after symptoms first present

in other words, what we are seeing right now in terms of illness, hospitalizations, and deaths, represents where the pandemic's infection rate was 3-4 weeks ago. That's back in the 2nd week of June when we were seeing 20,000-21,000 confirmed cases a day. That's around 140,000-150,000 confirmed cases a week.

yesterday, there were over 50,000 confirmed cases. In the week that includes yesterday, there were 280,000 confirmed cases which doubles the count from the 2nd week in June. At the rate of yesterday, there would be 350,000 confirmed cases in the next week. But at the rate of increase we're seeing right now, it's entirely possible we'll see 400,000 confirmed cases in the next week which almost triples the number of the 2nd week in June

    look at this:

    upload_2020-7-2_22-0-51.png

if you use that bottom line (the days since 100 cases) then project up on the vertical lines from 91 thru 105 and that's what was going on that is creating current hospitalization numbers. If you want to know what will be going on 2-3 weeks from now, then use the vertical line from 119 and wherever that curve goes from here

    ***************************************

we were fucking stupid in this country. We re-opened too suddenly, too broadly, and too fast. Compare the US to Europe:

    upload_2020-7-2_22-12-16.png

looks a little different doesn't it. But then in Europe, they don't consider wearing masks to be a sign of weakness or a leftist plot to impose socialism and confiscate guns. Mask use there in several countries is above 80%. It's not a political issue. Morons made it one here

in summary, don't count hospitals clear of crisis until 2-3 weeks after we see the curve falling again. I'm thinking that's weeks away and we'll be seeing all kinds of closures again. Even the right-wing Texas governor gets it as he just mandated mask use

Why the next few days could decide the fate of the coronavirus crisis in the US: Startling data shows deaths are RISING again - as spike in cases and hospitalisations show worsening outbreak may not be down just to more testing
    • Cases have started surging again in the US and yesterday hit a one-day record of more than 52,000
    • Hospitalisations are also rising, with around 35,000 currently sick up from a low of 27,000 in mid-June
    • It takes two to four weeks for a fatal Covid-19 patient to die, on average, meaning deaths could spike soon
