Actually, I had already thought of that. But, a consortium of dentists banded together and protested my efforts. Eventually, I shut down the operation.

    Hey! Protesting DOES work!!

OK, I'll play. "We the people" is a very nice beginning. In light of today's issues, where you taking that, though? Protests every day? Tearing down statues? Mob destruction and killings? Politicians barking at us from their respective bully pulpits? (Yes, Trump, too!)

I'm asking, where does the legit, "We the people" mantra get inserted into society in a relevant and cohesive manner?

My entire purpose for this thread is coming at this thing from a different direction and platform.

Take a look at the folks making videos and writing essays on this effort, below. Personally, I like the mix.

    It
Change starts with the highest levels of leadership in our government. It starts with guys like Trump and McConnell representing the interests of the entire country, not just the sheep that keep them in office. Those so-called leaders need to ask the people what it is they want, not the so-called leaders telling us they know what’s best for us. That’s train left the station with Kennedy’s assassination. And it has to start with the people holding their so-called representatives accountable. The last comment is EXACTLY what is happening in this country right at this moment. And our so called leaders and representatives are fighting against the will of the people. All the videos and essays in the world aren’t going to open tiny little minds if current events aren’t making a dent. You obviously aren’t waking up to the fact that minorities are sick and tied of small steps spread out over many generations. They’re tired of waiting and they want equality now. Your approach is just yet another example of Whitey knowing what’s best for his minority “brothers”. Like I said, been there, done it, seen it. Time for a different approach.

While I understand, and appreciate, your comments, it occurs to me that other Presidents had similar mandates and political platforms, as well. Most recently, President Obama. I could use your mantra and say that plenty has been expected from the highest of ranks over the years/decades. Why not get behind an approach that reaches up and out?

Personally, I think this 1776 Initiative is going to gain more and more momentum. The more momentum, the more change (REAL change) can be effected. We shall see.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Yes, and Obama initiated a sweeping police reform program, that was reviewing every police force in the nation and giving them guidelines for changes they had to make to become a more responsive and less violent organization. Guess who killed that as soon as he entered office? Trump.

Your constant refrain that Trump is like every other President and Obama did nothing to help with the problems is entirely wrong. It would be better if you tried to actually understand the issues and what has been done before you simply state what you'd like to be true because it's convenient for your beliefs. This is similar to when you tried to use Martin Luther King as an example of how "top down" change doesn't work, even though King was one of the biggest proponents of government-initiated change and worked extremely hard to successfully get government policy to effect change. You want to believe government action is ineffective, so you just assume it doesn't achieve anything and make wildly inaccurate claims. Similarly, you want to believe that Trump bears no blame because "no one has done anything" and that's also inaccurate.

And, apparently, Atlanta still abides by many of those Obama-led recommendations.

Again, we could go tit-for-tat until the cows come home. The point of this whole thread is that, to me, it really doesn't matter which president is in office. This type of change is gonna have to be led from the trenches.....other than the protests, violence, etc., that is.

You are absolutely correct about work being done in the trenches. But leaders are elected to do just that; Lead. And the folks in the trenches need to be allowed to work, to not be restricted, to be not abased and degraded, to not be told how they are doing it “wrong”, to not to be labeled “terrorists”. They need to be led by by individuals who not only believe in change but act on it. Judging by the current moment, that would pretty much leave most if not all Republicans out of any positive change.....Hard to solve a problem when you ARE the problem.
