I think people and parties focus too much on the other side instead of focusing on the problems of their own party. As a conservative and former republican I am horrified and enraged that racists and white supremacists feel they now have a voice in the republican party. But this is a sports forum so I will make it fit the space. If a slightly altered version of the Blazer pinwheel was to be suddenly embraced by pedophiles and child molesters and not only didn't the Blazers say anything about it but retweeted people using that symbol and allowed it to be displayed by fans at the games that would do it for me. I would stop being a Blazer fan. There is no way I could support the team. If I belong to or support an organization I don't excuse horrific behavior because I believe the other side is worse. And that's what republicans and conservatives are being asked to do now.
well if it helps i have republican ideals. Im also a former republican, much because of what you state. hatred though i agree with @Road Ratt. Its taught to us from birth. I want people to be independent thinkers but society proves me wrong. Aith that said the scenario you played out is a bit different in that Trump cant stick around forever no matter how much he is embraced. so as much as i acknowledge Trump has not helped, the hatred was around prior to him. Antifa has been around longer and they have a strong percentage that leans towards violence Nd hatred for anyone who doesn't agree with them. Plenty of vids out there displaying such.
I certainly didn't watch it, nor do I intend to. If I watched every video posted here, I'd have no time for anything else. I'm not interested in what a random dude says in a video, I'm interested in what a random dude on S2 says in a post. That's why I responded to what you said, OB. If you want to summarize the video for me in your own words, I'll read it and respond. barfo
but then you get my biased viewpoint instead of your own interpretation. i get what you aRe saying if i just made a post to discuss randomly, but i made a post to discuss a Specific video ANd their viewpoint aNd you in turn want to discuss my viewpoint. Not. Good start for healthy discussion if you ask me. My viewpoint has been noted many times so why would you want to discuss the known? Why not discuss another persons viewpoint in hopes of learning something new rather than regurgitating the same viewpoints over and over of forum members?
I'm interested in your biased viewpoint; I'm not interested in some random video dude's biased viewpoint. And I get what you are saying, but that would bore me, so I derailed your thread in order to discuss your viewpoint. Sue me. Well, that's very humble of you, to think that you are less interesting than some video, but I'm just not sure I agree. barfo
Flattery will not disrobe me. for me, it isnt a out who here is interesting or not. its about trying to come to a better understanding of why it seems hatred is growing in politics. One may blame Trump, but the fact is hatred in politics was there before him. Yes it seems to be compounding, but so do many things. So i find myself asking the same question i started with in a sense then.... Why do you feel hatred seems to be growing in politics and why increasing separation? why so little effort to try to see the opposing viewpoint before striking it down as nonsense? I see it in many facets of discussion. Politics, sports, social and communal discussions, etc. do you see this as well and if so, what is your reasoning behind it?
I'll admit, I also did not watch the video. I generally hate watching videos. So usually just pass them by. But, in regards to these comments, I often see the initial separation, and where the biggest division lies, is one one group trying to get access. To get rights. And the other group not wanting them to. Super generically, of course. But that's what a lot boils down to. And so then it comes to your second comment of trying to see the other viewpoints...you're denying someone rights that you receive(not you specifically), what viewpoint am I trying to see there? I had commented on this in a different thread,of everything being all or nothing. That's not the case, but some things, there is no middle ground.
I grew up in a very loving home where my dad was a typical conservative and my mom was a liberal. This worked well together. My mom, was the dreamer. Dreaming of more and better. Better life, better education, better adventures. It was dad who tried to find ways to make those dreams happen and if he couldn't to find an alternative. But it was never to crush them. Anyway, my mom's dreams and my dad's realities lead them to each of them putting each other through college while the other worked. I can give many other examples but their differences made them see things different and together the achieved more together. While I know this is a very oversimplified example it's always kept me open minded and accepting to strange and dangerous liberal thoughts. Because when broken down, those strange and liberal thoughts aren't really that scary. We as Americans deserve, no, we've earned better healthcare for all. That is a right. We as Americans deserve, no, we've earned better schooling, safer communities, cleaner places to take our families. WE ALL AGREE ON THESE THINGS. We just have to look past the labels and find the ways to make our dreams happen. We've honestly done this for the military. We've made their military dreams come true, they have the biggest and baddest toys. Now can't we at least talk about making dreams come true for the rest of us?
Good, please don't. Maybe because one party enthusiastically nominated, and managed to elect, a grossly incompetent, corrupt fool? And cannot admit that was a mistake? It results in that party losing all credibility. Human nature. People who act like idiots are assumed to be idiots. Reap what they sow, etc. Related question: what's wrong with hatred in politics? Can't we all just not get along? barfo
IS YOUR CHILD TEXTING ABOUT COMMUNISM? brb= better redistribute bread lol= let's overthrow landlords smh= seize means of production, hurry! tbh= take back housing stfu= support the factory union tfw= tyranny-free workplaces rofl= revolution's on for later? idc= international democratic confederalism btw= bourgeoisie trample workers
I do think the right is evil. the right thinks I’m subhuman. End of story. I don’t care about individuals in that party being “good” or “nice”; that party’s policies are dehumanizing to me personally and anyone who voted for that party has to understand they have said they’re okay with that. Nobody who voted for Trump can say they are my friend, because they voted for my oppression. And I don’t care about Supreme Court reversals or injunctions; the judicial viewing the executive overreach as unconstitutional doesn’t give anyone who supports the executive a moral pass.
I'm no longer a republican, but I still have conservative ideals/views. Would I not be the outlier or the exception to your rule negating some of what you just said? Or do you believe I am evil? Do you have hate for me because I believe Government should stay out of our homes? Because I believe in right to privacy? Because I don't believe in a socialistic government? Because I believe that we are all created equal, but we don't all behave equally, so I think its insane to try to have equal laws and universal this and that? These things make me evil?
