We're renting a guided Hell's Revenge sunset Jeep tour out of Moab as part of a road trip from Portland to Branson, MO.

Originally, Moab wasn't part of the plans, but it's always been kind of a bucket list item for me, not to mention I have a niece in Park City, UT who sez DO IT!

I was curious if anyone in here has visited the area (Arches National Park, etc.) and what your highlights were.

    Thanks in advance.

I haven’t been, but it’s definitely on my list. When are you going? I’d think fall would be a lot more enjoyable than summer.

I wish it could be Fall. My sister's birthday is August 3rd, so we're flying out for a big shindig in The Dalles/Hood River. My wife has a time-share in Branson (don't get me started), hence the ensuing road trip. We do have family/friends in Park City, Denver, and Kansas City we'll be visiting and staying with along the way.

As an aside, we're staying in Boise for a couple of days. I told my wife that the greenbelt is supposed to be an amazing bike ride, so we'll be taking in that.

Did a road trip that way a few years ago. Didn't hit Moab, but visited Bryce Canyon, Zion, Grand Canyon, Arches, Grand Staircase Escalante, and Canyonlands. Arches was cool, Bryce Canyon was my favorite, and Zion was overrated.

Thanks, barfo. I feel as if I've just walked the plank. Thanks for pointing me in that direction.

We did see Bryce Canyon. I'll check that out more closely. We'll have just come from Park City. Denver would be the next destination (following Moab) so we'll have to see logistics. We booked the Jeep trip as it's in the evening and we'll have come from Park City, so that seemed very doable.

Been to Zion and the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon was miles better than Zion.

I've been to the Grand Canyon, as well. Amazing. I took my folks through there when I drove them back to Oregon from the Phoenix area. For a few winters, they snow-birded there for my dad's health's sake.

My bucket list is to walk over that glass bridge so I can look down and feel the amazement the way I felt looking at the spillways at Hoover dam.

This road trip keeps morphing into added stops along the way. Anyone ever been to the painted hills? My wife saw a pic and said she now HAS to go there. Shouldn't be a bad stop. We'll depart from The Dalles with Boise as the final destination for the day.

Camped there for a week in the mid 90's. Slept out of the tent in my sleeping bag on the ground and woke up to alot of cow hoof prints all around me.

    That was kinda scary.

Also, did some good mushrooms on day 3, then a few of us went on a walkabout. at one point my best friend jumped down a 5 foot cliif and split both of his heel bones. We had to carry him out of the desert and he was laughing and crying simultaneously with every bounce and stumble we took.

Dude was a trooper. Set him up in the back of one of the pickups in a bed with his feet propped up and he stayed another two nights. However he has never been the same. had to quit his construction job later that year.

Anyhow its extremely beautiful, such clean air. Have fun ABM!

OK, we initially looked into renting a car from Portland to Nashville for the 19 days we'll be needing it.

    $2,100.

    I'm like, hmmmmm....

So, I did a little deeper research, and this is what I came up with:

Portland to Boise (which we were driving to anyway). Then Boise to Nashville. Same amount of days. 19.

    $700.

It pays to get creative when renting a car. I'm sure supply/demand rules.

We're visiting family and friends along the way across our beautiful country. Love Amtrak, but not really conducive for this trip. Thanks for the suggestion, though! :)

Ever taken Amtrak from Seattle To Chicago? One of the most beautiful rides there are.

Never have, actually. Portland to Seattle plenty of times. Some of it is pretty. I like that Seattle to Chi-town concept, though!
