no I didnt, this is why you are so hard to have a conversation with. You twist things and put words in my mouth. You answer questions with questions and sidestep/dismiss the questions directed at you more often than not. Quote me where I said Its okay for a cop to KILL when uncertain? Second, Im stating that the cop had legit right to assume the victim was going for a weapon based on the situation and guess what? the cop was right in his assumption. I NEVER said cops can just kill when uncertain. Now please stop twisting things or we are done with this convo.
I am totally in favor of charging the guy with resisting arrest and whatever else is appropriate. And the cop should be charged with murder. Edit: er, attempted murder, as far as I know he isn't dead. barfo
I was a police officer in the Army for 5 years. There was no need for 7 shots to be fired in that man’s back.
S the victim, who wasnt shot until after he went for a deadly weapon, should not be charged with an intent to kill? I'm fine with charging the cops for murder if you are going to charge the victim with an intent to kill. Equal justice.
There are varying reports on that... Some people are pointing to some photo's that show he had a knife, but they're blurry. There was a knife on the scene it's kind of down to who you believe on if he had it in his hand or it was in the car...
Okay so after a scuffle and resisting arrest, you cant accurately determine if he is going for the knife, what his intent is? If his intent was to just hold it, why go for it at all? And secondly., they were too close. They moment he had it in his hand a split second goes from holding the knife to stabbing with the knife. Sometimes I think some of you think cops have some sort of pause button while in the middle of a situation or something. lol. "Wait., He is going for something, looks like a knife. Lets pause everything so we can figure it out".... while in reality the only pause is in the mind and the cop gets stabbed.....
If he wasn't going for a weapon, what, may I ask, does anyone think he was going for? His ID card? a breath mint? .....
Is there anybody on this forum who has extensive police training and has actually drawn down on a suspect? Wonder what their opinion is?
I rode with the state police and though I remained in the car, was witness to three dui's, one domestic violence dispute where the officer had to detain the husband based on the wife wanting to press charges, and one armed robbery with the suspect detained when we got there. In no instance did the officer I was with have to draw a weapon. and yet my heart was racing in every single one.
Was the officer's life in immediate danger at the time he shot? If Blake had lunged, swung, waved, made any motion towards police then shooting was justified and 7 shots is not unreasonable. But the fact that Blake was shot in the back IMO proves that the officers lives were not in danger at the time of the shooting.
I watched a video earlier this week about Armed Forces police training and the police, and how the training in the Army and the armed forces is so much better at preparing officers for deadly situations. The video was from an veteran marine who had been in Afghanistan. His point through the whole thing is that in the armed forces they train people to stay focused even when your 'fear reflex' kicks in. His take was that Police officers really, really need more intensive training for dealing with situations like this.
It doesn't look like that was his intent at all by the video. Looks like he gets in and leans to the side to reach for something under the seat.
I was an MP for 5 years. There are 2 types of MPs....... Field and Garrison (what you might consider a normal police officer)You receive extensive training in both. I would say half of our training was like taking psychology classes. Conflict resolution for example. How to control elevated heart rates. Really interesting stuff. I have friends that are police here in town, but I’m not familiar with their training to be honest.
no way does that prove anything when they are within arms reach. How easy would it be to stab backwards while still standing there but turning at the same time. I could do it in an instant right now in the kitchen with a kitchen knife. Again . I have always said shooting 7 times is wrong, so some of you who bring it up over and over are just acting like parrots. What ive been addressing is how the situation gets there in the first place and how it could have been avoided several stops along the way, PRIOR to they cop making the wrong choice to shoot him 7 times. None of you want to discuss that and that's telling....you must all want some sort of civil war or something because without being candid about all aspects, you are inviting the extremists out of the woods to defend the cops because no one else is condemning the victims actions prior to him being shot. And they should be. If we, as a people address both and take action on both education society on both, then these extremists will have no ground to stand on and we are going to see more of these armed parades rolling through protests. I don't want that. I dont think many people want that, but the ignoring of half of the situation, i believe will bring it on. We MUST discuss both and figure out solutions to both, or we will not have equal justice.
