Yeah, I agree, that one comment was a bit confused (assuming he was against Trump sending troops in, which he probably was). That struck me, also, as trying to find any way to criticize Trump.

Then you either missed it or dismissed it. Some people in here raised holy hell even.

So we agree then. The mask was just one inference.

Not really. I still haven't seen people who demanded Trump keep troops out of Portland also demand Trump do something about mask protestors. Feel free to show me those people.

I agreed with TBF that one person's post earlier was a stretch of trying to find something to tag on Trump, but even that post wasn't an example of what you were talking about.

I'm sorry, not masked protestors, masks. many screamed for him to make a national mandate on masks. then they say don't send help into our city. Then condemn him for not sending in the national guard.

You can argue the semantics all you want. Its a pretty glaring double standard somehow dismissed and/or ignored by many who lean left.

I know you didn't mean masked protestors--I thought you meant people protesting masks. I didn't see people demanding him to require masks; he can't do a national mask mandate, as far as I'm aware. It's not within his powers.

Isnt that something he’s criticized for not doing and something Biden says he will do? Im asking for clarification not argument.

I don't know, I hadn't seen Biden announce it, but I didn't watch the convention. I don't think it's possible for the President to do himself. It's something Congress can do, I think, and Presidential candidates often campaign on things they can't do alone (like Bernie Sanders and Medicare For All or Andrew Yang and Universal Basic Income).

I believe it would be something similar to seat belt laws. While the federal government didn't make a national seat belt law they did tie it to the federal highway money they give to states. No seat belt law, less federal money. In this case they could tie it to federal aid to states, no mask mandate, no get to suck off federal teat.

It's not crap at all because I'm not calling for the National Guard, Trump is.
And here the states are trying to deal with Trump's horrific fuck up with the virus and rapidly running out of income as a result and here Trump wants to saddle a state with a debt he should incur if he wants the service. No, he's a cheap ass bastard and always has been.
Look how he's stiffed the little guys who worked for him constructing his buildings and working in those buildings. Also, look at how he's undoubtedly been cheating on his income taxes. He's miserly.

I do not think this analogy makes a lot of sense. If you do not wear a seatbelt - you are not, generally a bigger risk to others on the road or near it, but to yourself, but if you are not wearing a mask during this health crisis - you are a bigger risk to others around you.

There are Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards regulations - which means that no new car can be sold in the US that does not pass these regulations - and while many of these regulations (like crash protection) are for protecting the driver/passengers - there are a lot of them (brake, steering systems, lights etc...) which are there to protect others.

If the federal government can regulate safety standards in vehicles to protect other people - there is no reason it should not protect people's health during the pandemic. If this is something that requires congress or an executive order I really do not know - but the analogy made above - is not good enough, imho.

My point is the feds have ways to make states follow mandates.

    I understand that.

My point was that this was not a good analogy because it lessens the point that requiring a federal action for protection during a pandemic that already claimed over 170,000 people while disagreeing with the federal government sending people to be abducted on the streets because of graffiti and calling it a hypocrisy - is hypocrisy by itself.

There is no hypocrisy in requiring federal protection against real threats vs. inconsequential ones - and wearing a mask is not like wearing a seat-belt. One of them protects the innocents, the other protects people from themselves.
