I don’t know how anyone here can believe he is innocent or guilty. We don’t have a clue who he is, who his wife is or which one could be lying.

The problem with spanking kids is that most of the time it's done out of anger or frustration. That's not good, on many levels.

There are better ways to reprimand and teach. Sadly, most people who spank either don't have the patience or the temperament.

And yes, I'm making non-statistical generalizations based on observation. So basically, just my opinion.

The default for me is that he's innocent, until there is proof that I see or hear about from a trusted source. I know "innocent until proven guilty" is for courts, but I usually use it as well. Of course I don't know, and it doesn't really seem like anyone else here is saying know one way or the other.

Is it that whole playing defense thing that you don’t like?

If you are bigger you have the right to hit smaller. That's the lesson.

This thread is probably going to be sidetracked with the topic, so here is my take. There is no need to spank or smack a child. The only purpose it serves is letting the parent vent.. It does nothing for the kid positive.. Both my children respect authority but do not fear it.

As said, we have no idea the true story. Custody battles can be nasty and hope they work it out for the kids sake.

    dads against discrimination.
45 years ago I went through a battle just to get visitation rights for my two year old son.
I never missed a child support payment and when I went to pick him up on designated times in papers, nobody home. This went on for a long time so I got an attorney we ended up having to get her back in court three times and the judge threatening to jail her and give me full custody. She finally started to adhere to the visitation order's. She told the third judge that she decided to take a new direction with her life and wanted to start a new chapter that didnt involve messing around with visitation rights and such as the child was only two and figured he wouldn't be effected. Judge went ballistic. I have had a Wonderfull relationship with my son since and is very close to his 1/2 bro's & sister.
My attorney told me part of the issue with dads is many give up because of the emotions and fight needed to protect their rights. If a guy doesn't pay child support it goes to criminal court if a gal refuses child visitation or other rights it goes to civil court which can be a problem in getting defendant to comply as there is usually no threat initially to follow through on visitation.

Spanking provides a bad role model and shows a lack of imagination and patience by the parent to use some gentler, more effective form of behavior modification..

He made a play on the ball. It shouldn't have even been a flagrant foul.

I never really had a problem with that foul at all. It ain't like he hit him in the head. He was clearly going for the ball and wanted to deny a basket if he happened to foul.

Sorry no. I can't shake the memory of the Rudy cheap shot that basically ended his NBA career. For me he will always be a shithead Laker.

I hate to even comment on these things, but I feel obligated to comment that we should not judge until we have all the information. We're often to quick to defend or prosecute people.

Hi Mrs Ariza! You probably won't want to read the rest of my post

Shithead Laker announcer..."it looked like Trevor was swinging at the ball"

With a full step on Ariza, RF went up for what should have been an exclamation point on a Blazer win. It was a horrible foul on a defenseless player. "He got the arm and the ball" but mostly snapped his head back and his upended legs causing him to crash to the floor effectively ending his career. Nothing about that play was OK. It was reckless & dangerous. Fuck him.

The unfortunate thing is this is likely going to come down to witness accounting or basically a he said she said situation. So we probably will never know for sure and therefore we should all just be ready to withhold judgment indefinitely. As far as basketball goes, it's important to note that this isn't the NFL where the commissioner makes it standard practice to moralize issues with little proof and without criminal conviction, handing down steep suspensions. This is the NBA and if Ariza isn't convicted of anything criminal he'll be playing if he wants to be.
