I just drive 205 from Wilsonville to Oregon City. The Trump caravan is on the roll and headed for downtown. Another crazy night in chaos central. Maybe the wind storm will blow all the haters on both sides out to the Pacific.

I don’t think so. They said they wouldn’t cross into Multnomah county.

Good. I hope that's the case. I was just assuming from the previous caravan, which is never a good thing to do.

nah they can just attack the counter protestors in Salem they don’t need to go all the way to Portland this time..

The Salem Police Department made multiple arrests after rally goers attacked some of the counter protestors, supported by Oregon State Police. Videos on social media show right-wing protesters chasing, tackling and assaulting left-wing protestors with weapons, fists and pepper spray. Paintballs were also fired between the two groups.

After unfolding a large American flag on the steps of the capitol, right-wing protesters charged counter-protesters, leaving several injured. Right-wing protestors made a second rush later, tackling and beating at least one person, leading to two arrests.”

Nah. I'm worried about there being more unrest, and yet there's no fucking way I'll be out rioting, no matter what happens. There are quite a few million leftists who don't ever riot.

I dont believe the amount of trash and tents have been brought about by the protesting going on.

That article talks about cleanup from the protests, but, that would be that 2 block area. Yeah, theres trash down there. But your post was talking about the city being trash, and tents everywhere. Tents have nothing at all to do with the protests going on downtown, so I don't see your connection.

prior to the protests, when i lived downtown, i didn't know then who antifa was, but looking back i now know. They were trashing downtown then. Riding bikes through town with masks. I watched one kick over a newspaper stand a few years ago. Prior to the blm protests there have been many others and each time left the place in shambles.
So yeah its my opinion, not fact that i think antifa is trashing the place. I dont think its only them. But i think they are compounding the issue and helping to derail this once beautiful city into a trash heap.

But hey. Thanks for engaging in a civil matter. It IS appreciated.

What he is saying is the tents are not because of the protests. There has been a homeless problem for a long time in Portland and it has been compounded by the coronavirus. A lot of people lost their jobs and homes and we are seeing that in a dramatic rise of the number of tents around Portland.

I dont think he is questioning your take on antifa or what is going on downtown. He is just saying a lot of the tents and trash outside downtown are because of a rise in homeless not the protests.

fair enough. I can agree although i still think antifa is compounding it in the areas they “patrol”

What im saying is the homeless dont care (not sure they ever did) because they see the city goign to hell so they are getting dirty and dirty as well.
On 205 and powell there have been tents for years but little trash. This weekend there was more trash than tents laying around in that area.
The violent and destructive portion of the protests are polarizing Americans into thinking war is inevitable and we are losing discipline in many areas, including self upkeep of surroundings.
Shit, even i let my garden go and its all weedy now.

It just seems like a giant leap to me to think more trash from the homeless is because of protests. It feels like a way to plant blame unnecessarily. It feels like a political tactic used to "other" people. And if you can other or label, you got someone to blame and to hate.
It sucks when kids kick over newspaper stands. The need to label them as antifa because of it seems contrived.

even when their mask had an AF on it?

i didn't know what it was then. But i do now.

i did assume it was just kids at first. Until i learned that AF was for Antifascism which turned into Antifa.
So im not so sure its as giant of a leap as you think.

    Existential question.

If you are anti-antifa, are you pro fascism?

nope. I dont think antifa follows through with what they claim.
Of course im against fascism. And im agaisnt using fascist techniques to battle fascism.

I dont see two wrongs equalling a right.
