I learned from a podcast that German settlers in Texas brought the BBQ techniques from Germany before Texas was a state and every student of these Germans branched off and started their own BBQ places which is why bad BBQ cannot survive in Austin. My older half brother grew up in Texas...played for Texas A and M in the 60s....passed a few years ago...he was based in Houston.
I’ve traveled a decent amount and I’m not sure there is too many places I’d want to live. I definitely want to retire in central Oregon. I used to spend summers in Misery (Missouri) it was an arm pit. Sticky, hot, backwards people. I actually thought San Diego was nice and pleasant for California standards. I liked Boston. Thought it had a good feel. Georgia was awful. Florida feels like you’re in a foreign country. My cousin lives in Boulder. Been there a couple times and while the scenery was really cool, I don’t like extreme winters and the elevation sucks ass. Portland feels like home (because it is) and I have a fondness for central Oregon
What areas? I'm going to Miami and Tampa for Christmas. Never been to either before, I have an inkling for what I'll think about Miami but Tampa I have no preconceived notions.
The drive home to my property from the Eugene Airport is one of the most beautiful places I've ever come home to....I'm very happy with my land...just hope idiots don't buy the houses for sale around me. I only have 2 acres now but hundreds of acres of BLM lands on two borders
Miami is shit. Lots of cuban and south american culture though, which is nice. But its either douchey, ghetto or suburban hell. Ft Lauderdale and northern areas are nicer.
humid as hell in the deep south ...I don't do the humidity thing anymore...New Orleans is the same...brutal...mosquito paradise....Savannah Georgia is really beautiful but the air is thick like Olongapo in the PI

Tons of German bakeries between Dallas and Austin. Had some dope BBQ at La Barbque as well as BBq breakfast tacos. Its really easy to get sick of BBQ quick though
I live in Winter Park right outside Orlando and it's not too bad. Good diversity and a lot of good places to eat. 45 minutes from either coast. Not going to live here past a couple more years though. Will probably just move back to Oregon when the job market bounces back. One of my favorite towns/cities I've been through in my many road trips across the country was Manhattan, KS. College town, reminded me a lot of Corvallis.
I spent a summer as a life guard and announced baseball games in Peru Indiana when I was 16...my uncle was a Fireman there...in those days it was a nice place...home of the circus animals and had a stone big top where acrobats worked out in the off season

My wife is from Venezuela, she lived in Miami for a few months when she first came to the US. But she didn't come here just to live in a Cuban/South American culture so she didn't really like it there. She moved to NYC after that and then to SF before making her way up to Portland.
Only been once. Went to a game in January at Butler vs Seton Hall. Very nice right around the university but outside of that I don’t know. Heard downtown Indy is nice. Also heard can be kind of a racist place. Friends here moved from Indy a few years ago.
I looked at property there before I came back to Oregon...some beautiful places around there...I have a friend from the Navy who is a mailman in Asheville...on of the nicest guys I met
