Apparently Lillard likes this idea(liked the comment) and he should like it, but we have no cap space unfortunately.

Can MLE be combined with cap space?

my inclination would be that the clips Jamychal Green will opt out of player option and is a more acquirable target. i bet jeremy grant gets the full MLE or better. not sure what a sign and trade option would look like or if denver would be interested. they most likely resign him them selves. green is a stretch 4 that played some small ball 5 in the bubble.

no, teams can't combine exceptions, and can't combine exceptions with cap-space

however, hypothetically Portland could have cap-space. If the cap was static and stayed at the projected 116M and the Blazers renounced their rights to Whiteside while waiving Ariza, they could have close to 18M in space. Now that doesn't account for their draft pick so it could be 14-15M in space. This assumes Hood and Hezonja exercise their player options. It also doesn't account for Gabriel

so then, hypothetically, the Blazers could throw 14-15M at a player like Grant

but it very well could be that the cap won't increase 7 million from this season's 109M to 116M. It could actually drop, and do so in a historic manner. One projection was it could drop as much as 30 million:

    https://dknation.draftkings.com/202...-update-news-rumors-report-warriors-bob-myers

    https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/258157/NBAs-Salary-Cap-For-20-21-Could-Decline-By-As-Much-As-$30M

now, that was said prior to the bubble. I'm guessing it didn't account for whatever revenue recovery the bubble brought. Still, that isn't a good indication for any increase in the cap. And if the cap, for instance, dropped 15M down to 94M, the problem would become creating a mechanism to stop the tax threshold from falling at the same ratio

it's all moot anyway if the owners declare force majeure and cancel the current CBA. There is not much reason to expect a next-season any time soon. Be hard to have 30 teams in an 82 game + playoffs bubble

I think the cap will remain at 109M. It cannot really drop because it will cause tax issues for teams that were careful to not reach that line. It cannot increase as well so I believe it will just stay at 109.

I don't know about that. The cap calculation is tied to BRI, and that's a foundational pillar of the CBA. The owners can't just change that rule. The union has a say and it's reasonable to think there would be lots of room for disagreement if the two sides are talking about changing the fundamental basis for revenue sharing. I don't think the union would worry much about where the tax threshold is, the salary cap may be a different matter

I honestly think that there are other players who can do what Grant does that will come cheaper. He's certainly out of our price range, and that's okay. If Wenyen Gabriel keeps working he's certainly got a shot to be at least that good.

well, if Zach Collins can be the next Siakam, I guess Gabriel can be the next Grant. Blazers will be really good next season with Siakam and Grant in the front court

The thing is what cap are we talking about and what luxury tax are we talking about because the ultimate what is what CBA are we talking about? The structure of the CBA for next season could look like a completely different model with all of the uncertainty at this moment. I think the owners could try to strong arm the players into a lopsided deal for a few years but I doubt that ultimately makes sense for either side. I think we will see a very unique CBA negotiated for one season and then see a long term deal worked out after next season, whenever the hell that is.

if the owners are looking at next season, whatever form it takes, as a money-loser, I'd think they'd have little interest in having a next season, especially when they can use the leverage of a lost season as part of building a new CBA. I'm just not sure where the line is for a money-losing season. There's a lot of ledger magic available to the wealthy

Cheaper for sure and maybe he is not worth 15M to us, but I don't think you can find that skillset in many players at that price range. He is a great defender and spot shooter.

and even more than that. The guy is a slasher, he's got blow by speed and quickness and is an explosive finisher around the basket.

Wait did you just try to give a guy whose first name is Wenyen and last name is Gabriel the nickname Gabe? If that's what you were doing I disagree with the nickname but agree that we should re-sign him and give him some run next season. Also "sig min" I mean "some PT" or "a lot of PT" doesn't take much more typing and those are actual words, recognized initials or contractions that mean something. If "sig min" was meant to be significant minutes, how significant are we talking about because if Melo comes back and Zach is healthy there won't be a ton of minutes at the 4; then at the 3 he has to compete for minutes against Melo, hopefully Hoodie and Nas. So how "sig" of "min" could we be talking about? Like ten "min" a game and is that "sig" enough for you? Sorry I'm not trying to be too condescending it's just once I started on the "sig min" thing I thought it was kind of funny.
