Lavert signed an extension that, when using next year's salaries, makes the deal work.

I would do this without blinking. No way the Nets give us all that. I would argue that LeVert is just as good if not better. Dinwiddie is probably just as good as CJ as well.

    My thoughts exactly.

Also, I can't imagine that CJ and Kyrie would work particularly well together.

I would do this deal in a heartbeat. I love LeVert's game, Dinwiddie is the backup PG we need and we get a first rounder?

Kinda like I can't imagine Dame and CJ works particularly well together but hey if Sean Marks is more sold on it than Olshey... please let that trade happen.

    What's this bullshit trade idea...

    https://www.prosportsdaily.com/RedZ...our-players-and-three-firstround-picks-657471

Golden State Warriors receive: Damian Lillard, Trevor Ariza

Portland Trail Blazers receive: Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole, Eric Paschall, Kevon Looney, No. 2 pick, 2021 first-round pick (top-three protected via MIN) and 2026 first-round pick (top-three protected

Didn’t know if this belonged in the FA thread or this one but this was a sign-and-trade idea I came up with. Detroit can’t force Wood to stay, and according to the Bobby Marks’s salary predictions, he could be had for $10-12m a year. My idea is Wood for Simons, Ariza, Hezonja, #46, and our 2021 lotto-protected pick. This would allow us to sign him for up to $16m/year and have him as our starting PF. And if Detroit can’t keep Wood, they get a potential-player, picks, and expirings. I like this cause it allows us to use our MLE on someone else like Crowder or a starting SF and it moves Collins to a backup PF/C role where he might be more comfortable. Opinions?

Whoa whoa whoa! That's not how sign and trades work... we wouldn't have to give up more than Ariza and whatever else it takes to match which I think Ant would be enough to do but if we gave up Ant we would probably expect a pick coming to us not the other way around. It's not like the team signing and trading the player gets equal value back for him.

They work that way when you otherwise can't afford to sign the player, which is the case here.

believe it or not, both of those guys have a higher usage rate than CJ; and while both are likely better defenders than CJ, neither is very good. And neither is that efficient, although Dinwiddie had a higher TS% than CJ and is an excellent passer. He'd be an upgrade over ET as a plamaker, ut weaker on the glass, and maybe not as versatile defensively

LeVert can have some great games, but he has a lot of clunkers too

depending on the draft pick, this seems like a meh trade, and I say that as someone that would like to see CJ traded

That is why you work a sign and trade but the team doing the signing gets a small transaction fee not a first rounder, second rounder, a solid veteran on an expiring contract and a prospect with a high ceiling.

You have to give them enough to agree to help you in the deal. We need the Pistons, they don’t necessarily need us. What I can guarantee you is that Detroit won’t be adding picks to a trade where they ultimately lose the most talent lol.

In the end, if the Blazers could convince Wood to sign here, a 1st, 2nd, expiring, and prospect should be enough to have them stomach losing a player like Wood and we could even have them take Hezonja off our hands to clear out a roster spot. I wouldn’t categorize Simons as a prospect brimming with raw potential either—he’s just a prospect at this point. Just because DET has the time to be patient with Simons and hope for possibility that he’ll be an All Star, doesn’t mean they’ll give up picks for him. The Pistons’ involvement is the difference between him signing with us a contender or him signing with PHX a team with the cap space and a young roster. And with the Covid stuff going on, players could be looking to get their money guaranteed as soon as possible.

In the end, I’m willing to do this because getting Wood would be getting an young enough All-Star potential player without the the All-Star price tag. If we signed him to around $10-13m for 4 years, he has potential to really outperform his contract by year 2 or maybe even right when he gets here. At a point where we have so much salary tied to our backcourt with little hope of improvement from them, this kind talent upgrade at this low of a cost is worth giving up the assets for in my opinion. We can rely on internal growth as Dame continues to age if Nurkic continues to develop offensively and get smarter defensively, Wood begins to consistently replicate his DET production on a winning team, and Collins continues to fill out and get better with consistent playing time barring injuries.

But if all we’re going to gripe over is 1st rounders and such in this sign-and-trade, then I take it you see this as a real possibility. How do you like Wood as a player and as a potential fit on the team?

I could see both sides agreeing to CJ for Dinwiddie, Levert and a 1st. It looks kind of lopsided for us but the Nets probably believe they are 1 piece from being the best in the east. They have plenty of depth to afford giving up 2 contributors for 1 final piece. The pick is no use to them since they are in contend now mode so it's just a sweetener to them. Portland gets a starting SG that should fit next to Dame better and a backup swing guard that are immediate defensive improvements in the backcourt. The 1st probably gets added to our 1st to move up.
The Nets are in position to over offer in order to get their favorite target that fits their time frame.

I just can't imagine CJ being that favorite target given what KD and Kyrie do (and don't do).

most speculation for the perfect compliment both on the floor and in the locker room being Jrue Holiday, perfect sidekick/addition to either the nets or the nuggets. of course with van gundy it looks maybe win now/playoffs are the goal.

The Pelicans are “openly discussing” Jrue Holiday in trade talks, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic, who reports (via Twitter) that several contending teams are pursuing the veteran guard.

Why does this jackass keep pushing Gordon to Portland?

    https://t.co/Bu4dJ9Wywm

The leaguewide interest level in Aaron Gordon is murkier. Brooklyn discussed chasing him in prior years, but that is probably moot now. He makes sense in Portland, though NBA Twitter's beloved Gordon-for-CJ McCollum swap has never been discussed in any serious way, sources say. Could Portland pry Gordon away without surrendering McCollum? Does Zach Collins appeal to a team with Nikola Vucevic, Mo Bamba, and Jonathan Isaac? What about Anfernee Simons?

That's way too much for CJ. Not sure how Celtics came up as they are fine with shot makers. They need bigs.

KD and CJ have beef....not sure that would pan out or pass KD's approval....CJ did study offseason a few years ago with Steve Nash though
