Kent and Hurd were good together. Being close in age probably sped up that process. They should only get better.

Goes to show how out of touch with the team I am, I didn't even know Calabro stepped down. Any reason for he stepped down? I am totally out of the loop.

Just quit. Funny thing is we fired a die hard Oregonian blazer fan in Barrett for only 4 years of Calabro who just bailed on us. Barrett would have never done that

Why not bring Barrett back? Make good on how dirty the Blazers did him. The Portland Diamond Project is clearly dead would have been nice to have Barrett and Hurd

I am okay with this. I liked him paired with Hurd better than KC. Just like with the Demers hiring, I like that he does not try to do too much. The game should be the reason for watching, not the announcer.

Really hope KC goes back to radio for ESPN because I loved his call there.

I did not think he was fantastic either.

I've worked with Jordan at the LCB and hung out with him after college; he truly is one of the nicest people I've ever met. Because of this, I'm more open to waiting for him to grow and improving in his craft.

After the Blazers hired Demers, I think the writing was on the wall they were going to go with a more budget hire in this position as well. The days of us paying top dollar for positions like these appear to be gone. I worry this will continue to trickle down to the roster as well.

JORDAN KENT NAMED TRAIL BLAZERS TELEVISION PLAY-BY-PLAY BROADCASTER

PORTLAND, Ore. (November 9, 2020)The Portland Trail Blazers named Jordan Kent as the new Television Play-by-Play Broadcaster, it was announced today by the team. Kent, who filled in for Kevin Calabro during the NBA restart in Orlando last season, will begin his first full year in the new role with the start of the 2020-21 NBA season.

“Jordan has been an excellent member of the Trail Blazers broadcast team since 2016 as Television Studio Host and really stepped up to take on the Play-by-Play role during the NBA restart last season,” said Chris McGowan, President & CEO of the Trail Blazers and Rose Quarter. “We’re extremely excited to see Jordan step into his new role as television voice of the Trail Blazers alongside our fantastic broadcast team of Lamar Hurd, Brooke Olzendam, Michael Holton and Travis Demers.”

Kent, who is entering his fifth season with the Trail Blazers in 2020-21, previously hosted the Toyota Pregame Show, McDonald’s Halftime Show, Postgame Show and Trail Blazers Courtside alongside Michael Holton. He brings more than 20 years of basketball knowledge to the broadcast team after a successful basketball career, including Oregon First Team All-State recognition in high school and three Defensive Player of the Year awards for the University of Oregon men’s basketball team. He also received Pac-10 First Team All-Academic honors twice during his career.

Kent graduated from the University of Oregon in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. During his time at Oregon, Kent lettered in three sports: basketball, football and track and field. Each summer, Kent reaches over 1,500 kids across Oregon and SW Washington through his youth sports camp.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to step into the Television Play-by-Play role,” said Kent. “I have some pretty big shoes to fill, following in the footsteps of the great Kevin Calabro, but I’m up for the challenge and feel great support from the entire broadcast team and all of Rip City.”

He and his wife, Tiffany, reside in the Portland area with their sons Calvin (2) and Landon (newborn).

Idk, we have been so used to excellent PBP guys and while Jordan is good he isnt great. I personally find him and Lamar to be quite boring. I find myself watching the National Broadcasts now when I can.

Both baritones, new and old. I hear no difference, except that Calabro had cute signature expressions, laboriously developed through experience to ascend the media pyramid. Rrrrrip City! Barrett was the exception.

Cost-cutting with Paul Allen's checkbook gone. Calabro probably was offered a small pay cut, the reverse direction he had with the Sonics as his reputation grew. He was used to being celebrated as a baritone star, which he didn't get here.
