Will we have to wait for Olshey to leave before we get a backup PG?

Rondo is out of our price range (and is going to the Clips)
Dragic is also out of our price range
    Teague is garbage
    Lin is a combo guard
Shabazz - been there done that.
Clarkston is a straight up SG

DJ Augustin is solid but OLD, and might balk at a backup role after having started for Orlando.

Avery Bradley would be awesome to get. Always loved his game. Plus he’s a northwest guy.

Brad Wanamaker would be good too. Very sturdy player. Solid defender, can penetrate and kick well. But not really an outside shooter, which Stotts wants.

I like his game too. If we added him as a combo guard Simons is getting fewer minutes for sure.

Moses Brown was a "backup" C. That didn't make him a functional NBA C. Throwing out names like Price, Watson, Baldwin, Adams isn't a good rebuttal

Only one time has Olshey invested more than a minimum contract on a PG and that was a BAE for Mo Williams 7 years ago.

IMO, a backup PG is one who can consistently run the offense with decent efficiency while carrying an assist/turnover ratio in the 2.5-3.0 range; and who can play at least an average level of defense. Williams and Blake were the only 2 backup PG's that came close to that. But since CJ was promoted, there have been no signs of a player like that

I get that but the fact is that Frazier, Baldwin, Napier,etc....didn't make the cut...but they were pt guards brought in as backups....Earl Watson could play...like Moses Brown...they didn't stick..my view is...that's how you find a Fred Van Vleet....you roll the dice...in our case, they just didn't move the needle..

in my view, Avery Bradley is not a PG. His career averages are 1.8 assists vs 1.4 turnovers. That's a terrible 1.29 assist/turnover average

for chrissakes, his career assist rate is 10.0%. Nurkic has a 13.4% rate

Bradley is great defensively but you don't want him trying to run an offense

Well when the team has shitty starters or injured bigs it makes sense to prioritize backups at all those other positions first.

Nah, we just have to wait until Dame is old enough to move to the backup slot.

I'm not sure there's been a year where the PG position was our biggest area of concern. We've always been a few pieces short and it appears Olshey thinks backup PG is less important than backup wing or center positions. Not to mention all the years we haven't had starting caliber forwards.

At this point, backup PG still probably 3rd in order of importance in my opinion. I would LOVE a solid backup PG who could defend and even allow Dame to play off the ball a little bit.

I think most top shelf point guards don't envision themselves playing second fiddle to Dame...Dame is like MJ....his legs need to be falling off for him to take a rest...Nobody wants to take a paycut and be the next Judd Buechler playing 4 minutes a game behind Jordan....so you end up with the Jeremy Lin's of the league who just want a job....Dragic will never come here to back up Dame for example

Literally the only person that could maybe possibly be called a backup PG is mo Williams. Or Steve Blake. The rest of those are further proof to the OPs point.

We disagree....what you are alluding to is that they shouldn't be called "good" backup pt guards......my point is...they are pt guards. Not that they were keepers or even very good...I"m not saying Olsheys choices panned out for us...that's where this goes sideways...I think Price and Watson were decent backup pt guards as well...as I said earlier...we rolled the dice and came up with bupkis

We have an excellent back up point guard his last name is McCollum. CJ is a way better point guard, albeit of the score first variety, than he is a shooting guard. For the sake of injuries I guess we could have a "back up" on the roster but because it is just in case of injuries, that's what D-League players and other free agents are for.

I have one problem with Neil's rosters and that problem is starting CJ at SG and paying him so fucking much... so in essence CJ. I think he usually builds out the rest of the roster really well.

Obviously if we didn't have CJ then we would need a really good back up PG but with the minutes that Dame and CJ play it makes no sense at this time to shell out anything, even the vet min for what would be a third string PG especially if Neil feels that Ant can do that and Ant says he's working on his passing so I don't think it's Neil that has to leave to get a back up PG it's CJ.

It’s really not even hard to find a backup point guard. There are plenty out there. Not sure why this is an annual thing. Just...go get one.
