FWIW, Neil is way too bullish on Ant. I don't think he brings in a guy to play PG ahead of him. I'm guessing our offseason is about done, with maybe stuff like Wenyen or a two-way coming. Think we go into the season with our BAE on hand and an extra roster spot.
I don't think we use either of those at this point look at how loaded with players that all are used to getting PT this team is. I don't think we have a lot of minutes for Nas, Wenyen if he re-signs and Ant. We definitely don't have minutes for Elleby and the other two spots should be filled by two-way players that don't get minutes. All of this is when healthy.
if Portland is at 8M in room, they'd have to S&T Whiteside for 5-6M after renouncing the BAE. That exception counts against the cap if the Blazers use the full BAE, they are then down to 4-5M in room that could be burned away, mostly, with a couple of vet-minimum deals I think that Whiteside S&T is basically dead as an asset
If portland has 8 million in room, they can S&T Whiteside for 8, not 5-6. They couldn't use the BAE, but they can trade him for up to the apron.
I thought the Blazers were at 12 players and the minimum is 14? and they couldn't re-sign Melo if they did what you say
I didn't account for Melo. They were somewhere around 8-9M in margin before the Melo news they actually might be able to sign Melo and stay under the tax line. He's going to make 2.5M but IIRC, his roster charge will be around 1.5M I hope they are willing to go over the tax line and use the BAE, but maybe not edit: there might be a little more margin because the numbers I used earlier in the day had Nurkic at 14.8M and I think his salary is less than that
that would leave some margin but they'd have to be doing an uneven trade. Like 8M for 5M. That's cutting it tight I'd think if Portland is willing to go over the tax line they'd still want to leave a little room under the apron for a future trade
