Wenyen needs to go to a non playoff team to get court time or play overseas and get paid....he'll be buried in our rotation without much daylight for minutes
Granted I didnt watch a ton of the Bubble, but I definitely watch the majority of Blazer games...and the Wenyen Gabriel fandom is surprising. Seems like a a great dude. They have had to let a lot of good guys go, just the business. But as a player, with this roster and the depth, Gabriel would be playing 0 mins a night. If he could be a 2 way guy, that'd be great. Otherwise, this doesnt really impact the team unfortunately. As surprised as I am about people's reactions, it still doesnt come close to the Ed Davis meltdown.
Melo is an inefficient ball-stopping scorer and nothing else. If Melo was anything other than that do you think he would've been out of the league when we threw him a lifeline? Wouldn't he be paid more than the minimum? His re-signing is a PR stunt at best. Wenyen, on the other hand, blends in and hustles. And he shot threes at about the same rate as Carmelo in the Bubble. If such a button existed you wouldn't have access to this site any more to push it.
The fact that Gabriel saw playing time in an NBA playoff game shows just how incredibly short handed we were as a team. Nice kid, but hustle only gets you so far.
Wenyen got the Pelicans gig because of Portland...I think .the Kings had him in the G league when we traded for him...he is a good kid but unproven so far all for a small sample size and NO is a good place for a young guy trying to stake his place on a team
Melo averaged 15 ppg last year. He hit clutch 3's. Wenyen smiled when he played and averaged over 6 fouls per 36 minutes he played. So....
In the playoffs, Gabriel was significantly more impactful: Given he's 22, I'd take the better & younger player...
Wish the best for Gabriel but he was horrible in the bubble, fouled every other minute. Nothing on offense. The love some Blazers fans have for the shittiest 14th man is mind boggling.
Riggggght. How many shots can Wenyan create? We have players that are better than him now (Rico, Jones, Collins) and have higher upside at PF (Giles). Glad Wenyan gets a chance in New Orleans but very happy we got Melo in a minimum deal over him.
