Free market capitalism would dictate that they are worth whatever they can get. So yes they are worth these contracts and just so we are clear I believe that every single all-star player in this league is underpaid. The funny thing about the revenue split is that it only considers incoming revenue and not valuation growth, so the owners like to talk about what they make or don't make off of their teams but over the past decade and I know this year is a little different, team's valuations have gone up by around 10% annually I realize that means that what is relevant last season wasn't relevant before because the valuation increases so fast but last season that means the owners made an average of $200 million more in assets than they had to claim as revenue. That's 6 billion dollars, that same season the reported revenue was around 8.8 billion dollars. The players are underpaid and the owners are making a killing.

Oh and earlier I referred to free market capitalism which is our countries economic model with some exceptions. Well in the NBA it's not the model. Not only are team salaries capped but player salaries are capped because players have max-salaries which is completely unfair. LeBron James makes the league far more money than he is compensated for, many other players can make the same claim but it's especially true of guys like LeBron, Kobe and MJ who were all the face of the league since it has been extremely profitable and went international. I also find the salary caps very anti-capitalism, if as a collective the owners decide that they need all teams to be successful for their team to be successful then just have a more robust revenue sharing system like MLB. I'll tell you what's not capped, the money the owners can make or the value of the teams.

You mentioned endorsements so I'll address that quickly. Endorsements are fantastic and a great example of free market capitalism. There are no limits and the players just have to go out there and get what the companies they endorse see as their value. So the players not only deserve every penny they get, they deserve more. Now if you want to say that we as a society overvalue entertainment, you can make that point but that's our fault not these players.

I wonder where the outcry is that it's not fair those players make so much and they should be forced to give it to those who don't make as much? Seems like that is a rampant sentiment these days....except when it comes to sports, movies, and some of the corporate giants founders.

If only teams were publically traded and could offer stock options to players.

Totally agree man, plus the players have the bullshit jock tax they have to pay too. I really despise that such rich billionaires then shop around in cities getting them to bid against each other to see which one will cough up money for stadiums too.

Mitchells contract is insane, 163/5 and if he makes one of 3 all NBA teams 195m. He's a 6'3" gun slinger that often struggles at the end of games.
If Im Gary Trent I want to earn this kind of money in a couple years.

Everyone has there opinion about how much some of these players make but mind is it's more about the money then the play. I am not talking about lower end players contract neither. But the guy I can admire this year is Melo signing veteran min this year to play due supposed he was offered a lot by some other teams I consider him playing love for the game.

"McCollum said he had to speed up his injury recovery to be ready to go for the season, but that others, like his teammate Zach Collins, who is still recovering from an ankle injury and won't be ready until January, get the short end of the stick due to the abbreviated offseason."

Why wouldn't you want to be recoverd as quickly as possible?
