So, if there's one thing Olshey consistently does, it's acquire a player mid-season with an eye to the playoffs. From the terrible (Arron Afflalo) to the very useful (Hood and Kanter) to the I'm-not-really-sure (Carmelo), this has been a pattern.

So: any suggestions for this year? Here's my guess: George Hill. I think, what with the condensed schedule, there'll be even more wear and tear on Dame and CJ and we'll find out that we can't really function with Anfernee as our sole backup PG. (My reservations: Presti will probably demand a pick and I'm not sure I want to give that up, and also it would probably require trading Jones Jr.. Also, it seems likely the Clippers would target him given their perpetual need for a point.)

Signing an FA, and then trading him at the deadline is not a good look for the franchise, or the GM. No way Olshet trades Jones (unless a superstar is involved, which won't happen).

I don't think Jones is going anywhere.

CJ is the weak link. GTJ is due for a big extension and we have Simons and Hood who can play shooting guard.

Can't wait to see Jones play. Everyone seems to be guessing on this guy.

Completely do not get the appeal of this guy. He's like Tobias Harris only without the skills.

    He was Neil’s #1 target.

If the magic suck (per usual) I assume Neil will revive these talks towards the deadline (if there is one)

That and five bucks will get you a cup of coffee.

Granted defense is very hard to measure, but...

in order to have an addition, there needs to be a subtraction.

with Olshey in charge, CJ won't be going anywhere even though he should; Dame won't be traded. Nurkic won't be. I don't think Covington or Jones will be traded, not this year. I seriously doubt Olshey is ready to cut the cords on Zach and Simons. Trent doesn't have enough salary to be traded for much. Might also be true of Little & Elleby. Too much feel good pablum pumping thru Portland media on Melo to trade him

that narrows it down to Hood, Kanter, Giles. Giles has a tiny salary....he won't bring much back. So then, Hood and/or Kanter. I doubt either will be, but if there was a trade, I'd think one of those two would be the most likely outgoing player
