On the flip side, holding on to a player FOR A LITTLE WHILE they were planning on trading worked out well for

Stevie Francis definitely contributed to Vancouver losing its franchise with his hold out.

yeah IMO it's BS, let him sit out however long he wants and not get paid a dime! I am tired of some of these star prima donnas, making huge money and then make trade demands and don't show up - F them!

Here's the deal, these guys can go Dave Chappelle if they want. They can just walk the fuck away at any time. They can take the millions they've earned and retire or sit out as long as they want and they always have been able to. Back in the 80s players sat for almost full seasons with undisclosed injuries before being traded or getting a guy traded to their team that appeased their desire for a change. There is no penalty for any player in this league for just telling their team to screw and sitting their ass down. The only thing they have to lose is future promised earnings (by that I mean every check due to them after they start sitting).

I don't like Harden's attitude and actually never have but I defend anyone's right to make decisions on a daily basis as long as they're willing to live with the consequences. The fact is any all NBA player can force a trade and force it to a preferred destination... and this guy is an NBA MVP. They just say they won't play and follow through on it. All NBA players are such a rare commodity that they have all of the power in this league. No owner can afford to let that kind of asset waste away when someone will give them a similar asset or assets that add up to similar value for the asset that is wasting away.

Oh and if the owner wants to make the epic mistake of finding Harden in breach of contract so he can release James Harden and get nothing in return, lets see him go for it. Harden will sign with a new team for next to nothing for the remainder of the season and then sign a new max deal. Yeah, Harden will have to take a pay cut but it will be nothing in comparison to the loss that it would be for Fertitta. The players have the power and they should, they are what we all show up or tune in to see.

I used to work in call centers and we had disposable front line employees but training their replacements cost us money so it was in our best interests to keep them on. I constantly had to remind the managers under me that our sales people, customer service reps and loyalty center agents were both our employees but for us in that building they were also our only product we were offering to our company. We weren't manufacturing anything. Our entire product was our personnel. I would say I was working in the people business and my people were like landscaping rock, which has value... these NBA teams are in a similar business but their players are like diamonds... sometimes their value is so high it can't be measured and they definitely can't just dispose of them.

it's prolly easier to find guys who HAVEN'T flexed their muscle like this among the top 15 players.

Giannis/Steph/Jokic/Dame/Tatum/Embiid stick out among guys who are past their rookie deals and still with their teams.

Great interview if you are a basketball nerd. A lot of it is relevant to us and how teams defend Dame.

Giannis Jokic Tatum Embiid are still on their rookie extensions. Players never leave on the rookie extension because its their first big payday and they are restricted free agents.

So from your list its Steph+Dame.

Houston is under no obligation to trade Harden at all. Harden completely tanked his value by going public. He can hold out as long as he wants, but unless Houston gets the best possible deal, they are doing their franchise and fans a huge disservice by just trading him for garbage.

If Harden does come back at some point, it’s not like there are fans to boo him either. I don’t mind players using leverage, but Harden doesn’t have near as much leverage as he apparently thinks he does with two full years still guaranteed.

Basically if a player gets COVID, plan on him being out 2 weeks at the MINIMUM! Wow!
