I actually just bought Mario Kart for Switch and it’s pretty sweet. My daughter stomps me though. Zelda: Breath of the Wild is pretty awesome too.

I’m pretty partial to Nintendo. I like the more cartoonish games like Mario, Zelda etc. I grew up on those and I’m not serious enough about video games to play serious ones. Either that or the bright colors and sounds just excite my reptile brain.

Funny this subject was posted as today or tomorrow I am taking an old Xbox system out to a guy that mods the system and loads all the various Nintendo formats along with Sega Genesis, Colecovision etc..

The first system we had was the Colecovision and then went through the various Nintendo renditions. Of course these were mostly given to the kids for Christmas, so me and Mrs. Clause had to try them out at night leading up to Christmas after the kids went to bed.

During my day we didn't spend much time in the house playing games. Mostly outside kick the can, pick up round ball or pick up any sport.
And most young guys that liked competition played more than one sport.

First system I remember getting was a SNES for Christmas as a kid. I think it must have come with Mario Kart, but we ended up getting about 2 dozen games for it.

Upgraded to N64. Got Zelda (OOT) after I had surgery as a kid and remember playing it while I recovered.

Then Xbox/PlayStation came out. My best friend had the SNES and N64 too, he went the PS route I went the Xbox route which made it cool for the console specific titles, IE: I had Halo he had Jak and Daxter.

Ive stayed with an Xbox since then. Got a 360, have an XB1, don’t really console game much anymore though...

Edit - Almost forgot, I had a GameCube and Wii as well. Mario Golf on the GameCube! GameCube actually had some solid games, Mario sunshine too.

........or building models, playing army, climbing trees, building forts, exploring the ‘hood, engaging in dirt clod wars, etc, etc, etc. If it wasn’t raining my mother expected us to play outside until dinner time. I enjoyed playing Nintendo with my kids when they were growing up, but I always felt like they were missing out on actual life.......fortunately they both liked playing sports so they weren’t entirely glued to the game console.....

Fortunately, I got to do all that stuff too. I built a tree house with three friends when I was 9. I remember exploring the neighborhood and the woods nearby. Different times back then. I used to build car models. I was generally out during the day and would play video games in the evening unless it was raining. Also, spent alot of time reading.

Grew up with board games too. Have a whole collection of them now including Yatzhee. Have a family game night where we play board games.

That's great, Chris. One of the things we're doing during COVID, since we can't see our grandkids very much, is doing on-line game nights with them. A lot of the old board games are available as apps. We have FaceTime going with them on our computers and then play the games using our phones. Tonight, Clue is on tap. I have a feeling it was Professor Plum, in the library with the candlestick.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
When I was really young, I played an Atari that my dad got in a yard sale. Around 10, I got a NES which was probably the most important gift I was given in my childhood--it was something I desperately wanted. I forget when I got a SNES, probably around 15--I played a ton of games on it, but nothing as much Super Play Action Football.

Beyond that, once I went to college, I became mostly a PC gamer and not even much of that. I played some PlayStation with friends, but have never owned a console since my trusty SNES.

We've been playing them a good deal more since Covid. Clue is one of my favorites and part of my collection.

Pong! Had that on Atari too.

Funny side story. My dad played games but wasn't great at them and when he messed up he woul say, "You Dog!"
