I disagree with your assessment on the Portland real estate market. It has been hot, it is hot and it continues to be hot. Values have leveled off for awhile but that was expected after such a huge increase the last few years. Anything that you might confuse with a dip was wiped out the last few months. Rental prices have gone down a little bit but that is mostly due to a huge influx on newly built condos and a sudden pandemic that makes people less enthusiastic to live so close to eachother.

Desperate people do desperate stuff. People living on the streets are backed into a corner. I'm sure there are some homeless who commit no crimes but just imagine if your child is cold and hungry I'm sure a lot of people will find a way to provide.
Sly, that depends on how you want to look at it. Covid-19 has left a lot of people unemployed and left to fend for themselves while living on the streets. There's going to be some increase in crime due to that. I'm not a sociologist so I'm not qualified to quantify amounts, I can only give a quality analysis.

Police said hoodlums on Thursday night threw "multiple firebombs" at cops and launched commercial-grade fireworks at the courthouse. Rioters also smashed windows and set fires in the area, KOIN reported, and police began using pepper spray or mace against the crowd, as well as what appeared to be rubber bullets or pepper balls. Seven months after the first riots hit the city, Wheeler said that it was time to take further steps to quell the violence. "Lawlessness and anarchy come at great expense and great risk to the future of our community," he said. "It’s time to push back harder against those who are set on destroying our community, and take more risks fighting lawlessness." He also noted the demographics of the rioters, who often claim to be fighting for racial justice. I give kudos to mayor Wheeler for calling out radical anarchist/antifa for what they are doing. Now he needs to suppress any continued effort in destroying property regardless of who it is. Cant let this shit go!
Proud boys were protesting/rioting about covid-19 measures this weekend and the police were reportedly very well behaved.
