understand what you are saying but I think it was more a bunch of red neck white supremacist nuts breaking in the People House causing trouble and hurting people. When I think of a legit coup there would have been total war with guns a popping everywhere with hundreds killed. Plus some of the military involved in an actual overthrow. Once more cops and the guard showed up it clear out pretty fast. It definitely was insurgency.

 

An attempted crime is a crime even if it does not succeed.

if you get pissed off at somebody, haul out a gun with the intention of shooting the person, and fire off shots at that person, it's attempted murder. Oh, I have no doubt that some of the yahoos thought they were going to force the Senate to change the EC vote for the Trumpster. It’s just so laughable that anyone would think it would have a chance of succeeding. But, I’m certainly not against prosecution on those grounds if it can be proven that was the intent. I never rationalized any of this, you are just buying into the ‘us vs. them’ narrative and assigning me a placeholder. Nothing I posted suggests I support what happened, I just disagree with your assertion that it was some sort of covert white nationalist coup. People were rioting because they thought the election was stolen, not because they are a bunch of Jim Crow-era holdouts that've been waiting in the woodwork for 60 years. None of the reasoning supports the reaction. I just find it interesting how the hard-liners on both the left or right seem to flip flop on what is and isn’t acceptable behavior. This is all bullshit. There is no power in a skin color, it’s all about money and influence. When people on both sides realize this they will stop being tricked by the media into rioting and fighting their own neighbors while politicians and billionaires gain more power.
