I don’t mean replacing his production, that isn’t realistic, I mean do they make a trade, sign someone, or do they try and hold steady with Kanter and Giles until he’s back? Safe guess is they try and hold steady with Kanter and Giles while signing some insurance on a two way. That way they don’t dip into the tax. It’s unlikely Olshey can find an upgrade to Kanter/Giles without dipping into the tax. Not right now anyway. So I’d give those two 10-15 games and then reassess. Sucks it had to be this way, but Giles has a golden opportunity now. Kanter is too limited to rely on for 30 minutes every night imo.
How does the injury exemption work? Right now there is zero rim protection. Have to do something. Can't expect Giles to do much right away??? Sucks.
Somebody mentioned that Cleveland has a glut of bigs and although Drummond would be out of our price range....Javale McGee would be gettable and probably cheap is we needed a big...he's a solid bench center
Hearing Dame and CJ talk about how hard Giles works in and before practice has me encouraged. CJ even referenced how he got his first real opportunity when a teammate got hurt (Wes achilles). I just hope Terry gives him a shot but I'm not sure he will. Terry said he would talk to Neil today about what to do to fill that hole. I mean, playing Harry should be a nobrainer but apprently not.
They need to be out for the entire season. If you use the exemption, Nurk cannot play again this season, even if he is healthy. So I doubt they go that direction. Hopefully Blazer scouting has a few good two-way targets in mind. A lot of decent centers have come from the G-League, ie. Christian Wood, Chris Boucher etc.
Looks like the league is gonna add a third two way spot. Better see two bigs signed immediately or I’ll light Olsheys car on fire.
First name I can come up with that is eligible for a two way and not signed overseas is Ivan Rabb. I’ve wanted Olshey to take a look at him for awhile now. He’s also friends with Dame.
Nurk averaged 5 minutes a game more than Kanter. Nurk was rated 39 in the league for centers PER Kanter #6 in the league. We will be fine
they need bodies either way. They’re not just down Nurk, they’re also down Collins. That’s half of their intended depth chart. I’m pretty confident whoever they bring in won’t be playing over Giles. Only way that happens is if they dip into the tax and trade for someone more established. I don’t think they should do that, nor do I think they need to. Not unless there’s another injury or Kanter and Giles just completely bust.
Did you see what Indy was doing with Kanter in there last night? I have never seen a more wide open paint in my life. They must have had like 10 layups in a row.
The right answer to @Darkwebs poll question in that game thread about who is most underrated is Nurk. You see posts like this and wonder wtf people watch in these games.
