No matter how hard you flex on this it remains a stupid point. Trump didn’t bring COVID to the United States. We are the most traveled to and diverse country in the world and we’ve got a relatively large population, a disproportionate percentage of which is overweight and unhealthy. We stood every chance of being hit the hardest based purely on those metrics alone. Do you have any piece of information, with data, that suggests the mere existence of Donald Trump being a contributing factor to increased COVID deaths? Trump being an ass doesn’t make him culpable for COVID.

This entire flawed argument is based on one hypothetical: “What if someone else was president?”

It’s just crap. Individual governors had infinitely more influence on COVID response than Trump did.

Seriously take a step back and look at your argument. You are suggesting one solitary person is responsible for the entirety of a nation’s COVID deaths, during a widespread pandemic of that disease.

Hate Trump all you want but this argument is beyond illogical. It’s unhinged.

“War is bad” vs. “Trump is covid”

Glad to see you taking the moral and intellectual high ground here.

    Wars != Covid. Fine.

How about we look at how Trump fared in his Covid response, compared with other countries?

Yay we're better than the Czech Republic! Wow Trump is amazing! Oh wait, it's the governors' fault now!

I think Trump's actions/inactions and rhetoric caused there to be more COVID deaths than there should have been. However, that is all speculative. There is no way of knowing what would have happened with another president. But it's definitely ridiculous to ascribe all COVID deaths to Trump. If you're going to place blame for COVID it should be placed squarely on the Chinese government.

I don't think anybody has EVER said that all the deaths and the virus itself is Trump fault. People are saying he could have handled the whole situation better. Had he imply tried to do that, we would have nowhere near the deaths we have. That makes sense right? Or do you believe Trump did everything in his power to slow the spread of said virus? So once again, I don't think we are saying it is all his fault, he just didn't help like he should of. Got it?

    Those numbers are staggering.

The USA has a fatality rate of 125 deaths per 100k people.

Taiwan had 0.03. That's over 4000x better. South Korea had 3 deaths per 100k people and their first case was identified the same day as here.

Click the link. 0.51 deaths per 100k. But they took measures to control the spread that would be unheard of anywhere else like locking people in homes, mass quarantines, etc. And who knows how accurate the numbers are?

Korea is the model. Or Singapore/Taiwan/Vietnam that should have been followed. Even today, people walk around in grocery stores here in the midwest without masks on. Like come on.

even if they're inaccurate, does it change how the US compares to Korea and other eastern asian countries?

No. What would change how the US compares to other countries are the respective customs in those countries and their transportation infrastructure. I'm sure there are other things that would impact them as well, but those were the first two I could think of.

it's more than the infrastructure. it's leadership. If you have hulu, can you please watch this doc called Totally Under Control? I'm not trying to be combative, more informative-- it's a legit issue that people don't understand how mismanaged our efforts were compared to a lot of other countries.

Oh I agree leadership plays a part. However it isn't the only factor in my opinion.

Still a failure to establish a link between the existence of Trump and an influx of COVID deaths.

where does the "Joe Biden has dementia" story come from? Cuz he's older? Stutters? Do people think that when you are older and might have trouble finding words or whatever, that means you have dementia?

I get the assertion. The problem I’m having is that nobody is willing to provide any specific data or examples that link any Trump actions (or inactions) to any number of resulting deaths. It just “Trump is a fucking idiot.”

Ok. That’s fine, but is not enough to attribute a disproportionate number of COVID-19 deaths to him personally.

Didn't Trump say he was a wartime president because of covid?
