I think there’s no way out of this mess she created for herself. The notion that schools can safely reopen is based on a CDC study of schools in New York and the way the virus behaved last fall. The new variants aren’t going to behave the same way, if indications from Europe play out similarly here. They had to shut down schools because they found that kids got sick and spread the disease just about as well as adults. Plans to reopen schools here around the first of March intersect exactly with when they tell us the variants will be the dominant strains here. They will likely have to close schools almost as soon as they open. The two weeks delay in vaccinating seniors while the took care of teachers will result in needless deaths.
