Please don't listen to Danny Marang. Defensive rating takes pace of play out of the equation. It literally accounts for a "grind it out style." They're actually good on defense because their defense is good.

I think teams like that that put so much energy in on defense tend to shoot with rubber legs on the other side of the court....Chicago was definitely that and I also believe Thibs took years off Joakim Noah's career to get those stats as well as Derrick Rose

I pray we don't do the classic bad organization move of over-correcting and hiring the total opposite of the previous coach. The rules are setup to where good offense will beat good defense (see: ortg win correlation compared to drtg). If we can become a top defense, maintain our offense, all with a simple coach change and not a roster change, I would love it.

I'm certainly willing to change my mind if a coach proves otherwise. Stotts is too quick to give up on anything other than drop scheme whenever they struggle. He doesn't have good enough game plans for each game in the regular season let alone a playoff series. I think he means well at times he's just in over his head. The fact he hasn't brought in a permanent defensive specialist to his staff to me signifies he isn't aware of it enough to fix it.

I've talked with Dan Marang and found him to be bright, open minded and easy to talk hoops with. I'd recommend anybody to listen to Dan....he's actually gone about building his career in a very smart way....he's getting comped to cover games for a reason.

You've liked posts from people trashing me before, and I didn't take it personally. More likely - You agreed with the premise of the tweet in general, and not necessarily the personal attack.

In regards to my channel, if people agree with all my opinions, they think my work is phenominal.
If they disagree with all my opinions, they think my work is trash and I'm a moron.

So I appreciate the compliment but I'm not surprised that what you think the one stream that was "excellent" was the one where I was giving Stotts some praise.

What I don't understand is how you have a problem with negative "discourse" then go and support the guy who calls people Neanderthals if they want more ball movement.

    Marang Tweet.PNG

The same guy who calls people who don't like flat-earthers if they think Stotts isn't perfect is apparently "open-minded" to you.

Every complaint you've had about me applies to him, but I'd say I've improved and am much more respectful of other opinions. So it feels like it's just about who you agree with, not necessarily the way they conduct themselves.

Here's the thing - If people like Marang more than our content, that's fine. We fill different niches and have different opinions and some people will like listening to someone who thinks more like they do than people they disagree with. I would expect you to enjoy Marang more than us because you're guys opinions align more than ours do.

But I never wanted to listen to a guy who thinks pace of play affects a per 100 stat, expects us to finish the season at or below .500 ever year, and who says we have to trade CJ for anything even if it's not a good return, while insulting and talking down to literally every single person that disagrees with them...

...so I went and made my own platform, and it's been successful.

The way he used them got him comped seats at games, summer league, plane tickets and a tv gig with a salary.......I'd say that's building a career.. I don't even think Casey Holdahl liked basketball when he started this career.....Dan does. I don't agree with him about some things but he didn't fuck around, he walked the walk. For people who want to make a living doing that he's a good guy to talk to about it.

The reason I found it excellent isn't that you said what I wanted to hear....it's that you celebrated a good win pointing out things you normally don't, like Melo playing well.....I'm not that shallow Torey and blanket statements about why I liked that episode don't apply.....I haven't seen most of your work, but I have seen enough to know that from the ones I've seen the only episode that did not focus on negative coaching was that one......I am a fan..comraderie after a win with stuff to cheer for is a good thing, so the simple thing is...thanks man....not thanks man but you only like it because..........as to Dan Marang.....I've had 3 basketball conversations with him and don't follow his show....I don't watch tv at all....I also don't follow twitter..etc..so don't know what you guys beef is but it's not my problem...I liked the guy. Last time I talked with him Mason Plumlee was a Blazer

Reading this last page makes me notice that Marang, Torey, and moron almost rhyme.

And if I slur Riverman fast, it fits! Easy in my present condition.

    Who's in competition with Maran(g)
    He used the word moron

I mowed lawns 2 and a third times today and I am proud of myself!

I couldn't see the lines to follow right after 6 pm. I think it was the Sun, but it could have been me.

I don't subscribe to Cleaning the Glass

al I can do is go thru BBREF. They say

2013-14: Blazers 1st in rate of opponent corner three's....17th in opponent corner 3pt%
2014-15: Blazers 5th in rate of opponent corner three's....8th in opponent corner 3pt%
2015-16: Blazers 7th in rate of opponent corner three's....8th in opponent corner 3pt%
2016-17: Blazers 2nd in rate of opponent corner three's....8th in opponent corner 3pt%
2017-18: Blazers 3rd in rate of opponent corner three's....22nd in opponent corner 3pt%
2018-19: Blazers 2nd in rate of opponent corner three's....9th in opponent corner 3pt%

2019-20: Blazers 21st in rate of opponent corner three's....20th in opponent corner 3pt%
2020-21: Blazers 24th in rate of opponent corner three's....30th in opponent corner 3pt%

so, it looks like bbref and cleaning the glass have similar stats

What separates the fist 6 seasons from the last 2 seasons in terms of defending corner three's? I'd say it's definitely linked to personnel.

in the first two season, the Blazers had Aldridge, Matthews, and Batum as starters. All were good at rotating to open three point shooters. Those teams also had 2nd unit players like Dorell Wright, Will Barton, Earl Watson, Steve Blake, and Arron Afflalo who were at least average to pretty good at perimeter defense

the next 4 seasons had Aminu and Harkless as the starting forwards. And 2nd unit players included Gerald Henderson, Noah Vonleh, Tim Frazier, Evan Turner, Shabazz Napier, Pat Connaughton, Seth Curry. Again, no lockdown defenders, but a sizable collection of at least average to good defenders

but before last season, for some reason (drugs?), Olshey decided that defense didn't matter. He dumped a lot of the decent perimeter defenders in favor of Bazemore, Hejonja, & Tolliver at the same time he cleared the way for Simons and Trent to have big roles. Then he signed Melo. That's kind of a killer's row of defensive screen doors. Olshey tried to put his finger in the dyke last offseason by bringing in RoCo and Jones. But with Dame & CJ already marked for major minutes, there are a lot of supporting minutes devoted to crappy defenders like Trent (31.2 minutes), Melo (25.6), Hood (19,2) and Simons (17.0). Those 4 guys are worse defensively than just about any of the perimeter players on those previous 6 teams
