They, of course, would prefer to trade him. But he makes over $28 million a year and is considered injury-prone, making a trade difficult. I'm not even sure why they would want to trade him. They don't have much for SF on the team. Then why aren't they playing him more? I don't know.

it seems pretty clear Portland isn't going over the tax line this year. They only have a vet minimum deal to offer. If Porter or Hill become free agents, I'd guess it's likely both would get more than a minimum deal. I have no clue which teams have exception space left, but I'd imagine there's enough of that space out there to price Portland out of the market for guys like Porter and Hill

I'm skeptical of this report. It smells like spin

All of that may be true, but I'd be astonished if Olshey traded Ant for a guy who doesn't figure long term in the Blazers' future. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he figures out another deal to make the trade happen though.

Hood for Hill works well for Portland. But I'd think OKC would demand more than Hood. They don't have a lot of incentive to clear cap-space next season because they already have 50 million in space scheduled

I still think either GTJ or CJ needs to go. If the Blazers think GTJ is the future at shooting guard, you move CJ.

If the Blazers think that GTJ isn't as good as what he'll most likely get, you deal him and you still have Ant as the shooting guard of the future.

maybe OKC would take hood and a second? That would save them some money (Hill is under contract next season with a buyout of 1.2m) and give them a draft pick. I believe Portland has a second in ‘22 they could trade.

Either way, the priority should be surrounding Dame with the best possible team and going for a championship, not developing a third string SG.

Most buyout players sign for the minimum. There are exceptions to this but for example Brooklyn still had their Tax-MLE and Blake just signed for a pro-rated minimum contract.

honest question, not loaded: when was the last time Portland and OKC completed a two team trade?

I would love to see if New Orleans would do CJ for Ingram. I think it makes a lot of sense for both teams. The Pels get a dynamic scorer in the backcourt to go with Zion and we get a long wing who can shoot the threeball.

    Dame
    GTJ
    Ingram
    RoCo
    Nurk

Dude thinking about scenarios that involve trading CJ is a complete waste of your time, why even bother

would he? I think he would just stand in the corner while dame and CJ dribbled out the clock. (This is a knock on Stotts, not Ingram)

    good catch

now, that would have been before Olshey messed with OKC by extending a max offer sheet to Kanter. Both Olshey and Presti are still in their jobs so I'd wonder if there is any residual bad blood

Probably that paired with being a division rival.

yeah, I know....I was just thinking the market for 27 year old Porter might extend beyond vet minimum deals, especially considering he's a career 40% shooter from three point range. He's a decent rebounder for his position, but I'm not sure how good his defense is

you mentioned BG getting a pro-rated minimum. Is that mandatory or optional. By that I mean could a team like Portland offer the full minimum for a half season of service?

George Hill might be in a long line of aging NBA vets that goes ring shopping if he bought out. Maybe the thing to do is pick a target player, then track down who his agent is and if Olshey has dealt with him before

Well, Porter's agent is David Falk.

Maybe 9 years later, we make something of that?
