Georgia passed the biggest voter suppression bill since the end of Reconstruction and onset of Jim Crow laws.

New law adds additional identification requirements, restricts early voting, reduces drop boxes, restricts using drop boxes to 9-5 weekdays, makes it very difficult to use absentee ballots, cuts most Sunday voting, and makes it a crime to give food or water to people waiting in line to vote. Georgia primary is in June, and in urban areas, especially majority Black precincts, waits of 5 hours or more in line are common.

If, after all that, voters elect the "wrong" person, no fear. Election oversight has been taken from secretary of state and placed in hands of state election board appointed by legislature. Due to partisan gerrymandering, legislature is expected to remain Republican controlled for the foreseeable future no matter which party gets the most votes. If the state board does not like county election results they can fire county election board and pick replacements. Literally state legislature can overturn election results.

Meanwhile, in Michigan, elections must be certified by a four person state board that is two Republicans and two Democrats. Certification requires a majority. Last November Trump met with the two Republicans to try to get them to refuse to certify presidential election results. One went along but the other Republican refused. He has been replaced by a loyal Trumper.

Iowa boasted about how successful their election was. In the midst of pandemic they expanded absentee voting and had record turnout. And Republicans won; Trump carried the state and Senator Ernst kept her seat despite strong challenger. But they still moved to pass massive voting restrictions.

Lest you think this is a fluke, the Republican National Committee has appointed a group of 24 people to work on election changes to make it harder to vote. It is headed by a Florida Republican who to this day refuses to say Biden won presidential election.

Nice little democracy you have there; it would be a shame if anything happened to it.

It's pretty sad Republicans have to cheat so bad to win. It's pretty sickening the lengths they are going to.

    Did the Arizona one pass?

Lindsey “The Midget” Graham has admitted publicly (at least twice) that if the Republicans don’t cheat, there will never be another Republican president. I hate the slimy little weasel with a passion, but at least he told the truth for once. And did it without shame. You can’t say we weren’t warned........

Several times Republicans (saying the quiet part loud) have admitted publicly that the more citizens vote, the worse they do.

Don’t worry, Nancy Pelosi can just remove them from office. Never mind the disenfranchisement of the people who voted in that district, politicians are our betters and should act unilaterally if they don’t want someone in office.

Fuck Powell v. McCormack, let our political leaders who live in multiple mansions decide for us!

What kind of low life sadist would prevent someone from providing free water and pizza from people waiting in a very long line perhaps in the hot sun to people waiting hours to vote? Huh? Someone, dear God, anyone, explain this. This person ought to be beaten with a bull whip or perhaps have a swastika carved into their foreheads and then tarred and feathered and ridden out of town on a rail.
God Damn it! I mean God Damn it!

Some low life people ought not to be allowed around decent people and definitely not around our sacred Congress. Nazis would like the reincarnation of Hitler to be a member of our Congress but decent people will not allow it. There are boundaries.

Some things don’t change over time, like white people in the American south. We’re still fighting the same battles since the American civil war, it’s really a shame Lincoln was murdered before he had a chance to implement reconstruction on his terms.

What is the penalty for giving water to someone in line?

What is the penalty to accepting the gift of water in line?

A person could go to jail for giving water.

Law also allows unlimited challenges to a voter's registration.

A Black legislator was arrested and charged with a felony for attempting to witness the signing. Governor Kemp signed the law with six white men standing behind him, beneath the portrait of an infamously brutal slave plantation. You really can't make this shit up.

I'm not sure about the penalty for receiving but the penalty for giving is a felony conviction. That's right, it's a felony for providing refreshment to people in a long line taking several hours to transit through in the hot sun. Damn those good Samaritans, perpetrators all.

In '24, we need a strong Democratic candidate because the party can't use Biden anymore. A person that is confident, decisive and young needs to speak up and lead the country as the Republicans are a copy of a repressive regime.

For someone who claims they voted for Biden and are a "progressive", it sure seems strange to see you using a tweet by someone 99% of progressives think is an absolute con man, as some kind of "talking point".

They will try to say it's to stop elections from being stolen or some bullshit like that. But, we all know the true rationale is some racist assholes trying to disenfranchise and suppress the vote of black people because it's the only way they can win.

They want to stop people from giving water and food to (black people) voters in line in the hopes that they get to thirsty, hungry, or tired, and leave before they have a chance to vote. Because the less people that vote, the better for them.

Why I was saying supply voters with water and food before they get in line. It doesn't say anything about before they get in line.

Also trying to limit the number of ballot boxes and voting times. Shame on these Republicans. How can anyone from that party be OK with this? Disgusts me.

We need an independent as president. Democrats don’t give a shit about anything other than registering more democrats.
