As long as Melo isn’t back. And preferably get a shot blocker behind Nurk, I wouldn’t mind that. But as long as we get a competent coach. Would you still start Powell at SF though?
what is opinion? that Chad Buchanen traded Wallace for the 6th pick with Lillard in mind? that the Portland scouting department was focused on Lillard for 3 seasons? that the Blazers and Paul Allen were searching hard for years for the PGOTF?
My take, boot Neil and Stotts out the door and find a way to use Cj to upgrade the 4 spot and resign Powell to start at the two. Get a Lou Williams type to play the 6th man role, preferably an actual back up point guard and see how it shakes out.
Of course he's not happy they're losing and call me crazy but I like the leader of my favorite sports team being upset when losing... But he's also stated multiple times he'd rather ride it out in Portland then go play somewhere else. I personally am ok with them getting a new coach but I feel like this is a poorly constructed roster. When your HoF player is only 6'2. You need to surround him with more length and defense. But Oshley has a connection with "his" players and that's not a good quality to have in a GM. People blame Dame for Neil not making moves but Dames said multiple times he's not the GM. If Dame had his way Tim Frazier and Ed Davis would 100% still be on the team. They need a roster overhaul.. the height of the starting line up is laughable and the combo of Carmelo/Kanter front court with the subs is horrible defensively. I just don't think trading your generational franchise player in the middle of his prime is the answer because he's slumping during a season where there's no real consistent help coming from any other player and the chemistry is obviously off. But I might be wrong and blowing it up and potentially being in the lottery for the next decade might be awesome too.
You are entitled to believe whatever you want. I will not attempt to bash or sway you. The thing about me is, I am tolerate to others opinions. If you want to believe Olshey had nothing to do with Dame, that is 100% fine with me.
I will leave this thread by saying, I can see both sides of the argument. I just don't feel we can win with Dame as "The guy;" nor do I believe he can attract other guys. Leaning towards rebuild, but I understand were others are coming from. Peace.
Great idea! Nothing beats spending 7 years out of the playoffs, having each season mean nothing, and praying for a high lottery pick that MAY pay off three years after the draft. Sure beats watching the greatest Blazer ever in his prime. Awesome idea!
We've already done that. Wasn't DeMar DeRozan the Raptors' all-time leading scorer when they traded him? Just wondering.
Olshey obviously was the GM when he Dame was selected. And he might have liked Dame best for that pick. All I'm saying is that the Blazers had appeared to land on Dame as the pick before Olshey arrived. CJ? sure, that's likely all Olshey. Dame isn't
Okay. Why? Here's where I disagree: no player is a franchise (except maybe Michael Jordan for the Bulls - but even then they've had the Thibs-Rose years since). Here's where I SORT of agree: it would be pretty much a first to trade a franchise player who wasn't asking to be traded. Players like Drexler, Barkley, Kawhi, Anthony Davis et. al. had all asked to be traded. Maybe DeRozan is an example, but even then, he was traded for a better player. Now, I'm pretty sure that if you found out we could trade Dame for Giannis or Doncic or someone like that you wouldn't say that it "ruined the franchise," even if you still disapproved because of Dame's all-round-great-dude-ness.
on one hand, I'd agree that due diligence says you should always listen to offers, even for a player that means as much to the franchise as Dame. Maybe even make a lopsided proposal every once in a while to at least check the temperature on the other hand, even considering trading Dame at this point before firing Olshey is a travesty. He's the best player Portland has had since Drexler, and Drexler was the best since Walton. And that's it; that's the total list of franchise players Portland has had, and Dame is arguably the best. And because of Olshey's goddamn love affair with CJ we don't really know if there were any actual realistic opportunities for Portland to get Dame a partner who could actually carry an equal share of the burden. There certainly have been other franchise players traded over the last 4 seasons considering trading dame is a capitulation to Olshey's ego and stubbornness. Every other option should be explored first, after firing Olshey, and for damn sure some of those options should be tried even if they fail, because trading Dame would be about the biggest failure of all. And no, no player close to the level of Giannis or Doncic will be trade for Dame. For chrissakes, all the Rockets got for Harden was Oladipo and Dante Exum and a collection of late 1st round picks
