sure seems to be accurate in stating the situation...or at least most parts of it. Dame has never had a contender around him I guess it also fits the narrative of those that want to try nand blame Lillard for the situation because he hasn't acted like a spoiled super-star and thrown coaches or management under the bus. That narrative expects Dame to do what Paul Allen wouldn't and Jody Allen won't; for Dame to force Olshey to do what he has refused to do for years and seems to be outside of his ability: take some major risks; for Dame to force Stotts out of his job when Olshey or the Allen's won't in other words, for Dame to be more like Melo or Deron Williams instead of Tim Duncan. If he was like one of those guys, then he'd be shitting on Portland while trying to force his way out of town. I'll take the version we have it's amazing to me how many people are willing to give Olshey a pass for his 9 year resume in Portland of delivering pretenders. It's to the point that many seem to be willing to blame Dame for Olshey not doing a better job
neil olshey has his faults, no doubt, but players need to understand that sometimes they need to sign for less money in order for team to have flexibility dame signed 4/196 supermax, cj mccollum signed 3/100 extension, that does not help the team at all, so in a way, they have no right to complain, as their contracts are one of the big reasons this team has no flexibility and in the next seasons, this team will lose some of its players, as nurk could be in for a big extension, but also other players are on expiring contracts
The root of the problem. https://www.blazersedge.com/2021/4/...-prime-years-neil-olshey-poor-roster-building
Can't argue with that. The 3 guard lineup is not a recipe for success, it's just that Stotts won't bench CJ or Neil replace him. Neil getting ripped on sirius now for this very thing.
Yup, Chris Haynes is Dame's guy. You know Dame was aware of this article for sure. This could be his way of telling Olshey to get off his ass this summer and make some BIG moves. I personally love this. Love that the light is shining on Olshey now too. Pure speculation on my behalf, but the timing of this article is interesting. There have been some odd "miscommunication" or "lack of communication" instances between Dame and Stotts in recent weeks. Could there be a fracture in Dame's relationship with Stotts?
This could be merged with the OTHER Chris Haynes thread. Chris Haynes. What a putz. Didn't he move to Cleveland to get on the "LeBron James Beat"? And then LeBron left. I really hate sportswriters who try to be remoras to stars - Quick did that with Damon Stoudamire of all people.
I also hate this attitude of "X is a good player so he DESERVES a title, and if he doesn't get one, it's somebody else's fault!"
c'mon man * max contract offer to Roy Hibbert * max contract offer to Greg Monroe * max contract offer to Enes Kanter * max MLE offer to Spenser Hawes * 340 million in contracts to CJ, Crabbe, Turner, Meyers, Harkless, & Ezeli (2016) * max contract offer to Chandler Parsons * max contract offer to Hassan Whiteside why the hell was Dame making all those offers and giving out all that money in 2016? Wait...that wasn't him? LOL at blaming Dame's super-max deal for the 9 years of mediocrity and low flexibility under Olshey....that super-max hasn't even started yet. Portland's problem hasn't been paying Dame all-star money. It has been significantly over-paying scrubs and role-players and non-all-stars
nobody said Dame deserves a title. What was said is that Dame has not even had a shot at a title due to Olshey's mismanagement, and he at least deserves that fighting chance because of what he has meant to the franchise
Haynes also refers to Dame as the greatest Blazer. As long as you completely disregard the defensive side of the ball, I think that is correct.
Also, if Haynes is saying Dame "has not received the help he needs to win a title", I'm guessing that sentiment came out from Dame when they were having the interview. That is a shot across Olshey's bow. Please let the Vulcan's see this and dismiss him and his valet.
Hey, I've been bashing Olshey since pretty much day one, but this is a nothingburger. You want to get Olshey fired? Write this in the offseason. This is just shitstirring of the kind of level that Steven A. "really, why does this guy have a job?" Smith does.
"His temperament and continued success on the court are akin to that of a modern-day Tim Duncan," Really? You can get paid for writing like this? Where did I go wrong.
