It’s not unfair dude. 7 & 8 get two shots. It couldn’t be more fair. Do you need a review course in math?
The 1st tiebreaker for a three-way tie is if any of the three teams win their division. Dallas as that on lock. The 2nd tiebreaker for a three-way tie is winning % among the three teams. We get that one. LAL is gonna be last in any three-ways. We're 4-2, DAL is 3-3, LAL is 2-4. So our magic # for 6th is 2 (any combo of our wins and LA losses).
looking at schedules and at standings, Utah and Phoenix are locked in a struggle for #1 seed. Utah leads, but Phoenix owns the tie-breaker; Utah has to win one more game than Phoenix. And with fans allowed in games, HCA is starting to mean a lot more again. What I'm getting at is that I don't think either team will rest players against Portland, as people were hoping. And Utah --> Phoenix is a pretty wicked back-2-back
I don't think the incentive for these teams battling for #1 is HCA. it's trying to avoid LA as a 7 seed.
I think that could be extra motivation but Utah especially has to think they have an actual HCA with the fans they will have and the altitude. Phoenix should want to stay out of the altitude as much as possible. Either way, I don't see either team giving us either of these next two games. We'll see what Denver's place is in all of this on that closing Saturday. It's a losers mentality but if they know that the Lakers have won a game to pass us and take the sixth seed and they're the third seed, maybe they'd throw the game to us in order to play us instead of the Lakers. Like I said, that would be a losers mentality and a bad message to send to your team but who knows.
If Dallas loses to the Grizz tonight and IF we win out, we will get the 5th seed and most likely face the Nuggets. This potentially could happen since the Jazz don't have Mitchell and Conley, the Suns haven't looked great lately. It may come down to an epic final game against the Nuggets.
in all the chatter about who Portland wants to play, it could very well be that Denver would like to play Portland in the 1st round even more than Portland wants to play Denver Denver is 1-2 against Dallas; 1-2 against Lakers; 1-2 against Warriors; but 2-0 against the Blazers wishing for a particular matchup is pissing on karma. I'd say it backfires about 70% of the time. And yes, I arrived at 70% in a very scientific manner I will say that the Blazers really don't want a 1st round matchup against the Clippers or Jazz. Those are just bad matchups for Portland IMO.
You could be right about Denver, but basing it on beating the Blazer by 5 points at home without Nurk and CJ, and then winning again on the road by just 1 point might not be the smartest thing to do. If I am Denver I want to play Dallas in the first round.
well, my main point was that wishing for a particular 1st round matchup was a fool's errand...the 'careful-what-you-wish-for' trap. So, if Denver is hoping for Portland, and Portland is hoping for Denver, at least one of those team is guaranteed to be wrong as for Portland vs Dallas from Denver's perspective: since the Blazers beat the Nuggets in 7 games two years ago, Denver is 2-4 against the Mav's, and 5-1 against the Blazers.
Im not so much concerned about who play, I just want the 3 edge sword & 1 beast sharp, and doing damage. We present a challenge to any team we face and if haven't as yet peaked, well?
Well, I do agree that "wishing for a particular 1st round matchup" based on the past results from two years ago is a fool's errand. Unless of course, the circumstances are exactly the same. (Injury wise)
We all in here have are own mindset about the team and how they should approach games from here on out and seeding. Question: What do you think the player's mindset is? Im thinking one game at a time....
I don't think they are much better; in fact I posted during our last game with them, that if we had Rondo instead of them, we would win the game. What if Olshey had signed Rondo instead of Jones?
Have to get a good NY performance tonight. Would allow us to lose two games if NY steals one in LA tonight. I see the Lakers winning out afterwards
Curious if the Nuggets and Jazz and whoever else are so NOT wanting to play the Lakers in the first round, they will attack their finals games accordingly? Like they would be better off letting us win so LA doesn’t move past us?
Knicks have been playing really well, and Lakers haven't...till Sunday night. But Lebron and Davis are both supposed to play tonight I'd agree if the lakers win tonight they'd have a good shot at going 4-0 to close. Still have to win two challenging games on the road though
