Bill Russell made it in as a coach? Maybe he had more coaching stints than I'm aware of, but I thought that aspect of his career was quite unsuccessful. I'm a little surprised by Bosh, as well. In Toronto he put up big numbers but had little success. In Miami he struggled to find his role and got the titles as a distant 3rd bananna. That doesn't scream HOF career to me.

Loved Adelman... Yes he failed to win a championship in Portland, but I thought it was a mistake firing him then, and I still think it is to this day.
This is very true... he was too much of a players coach, needed more structure, blah blah blah.... And of course we attempted to hire the exact opposite in PJ, which was a terrible idea. The concept of trying to hire a coach who is the exact opposite of your current coach seems so obviously flawed, yet it appears to be the standard.
Agreed! However, he was a bad TV commentator. If we had him and Walton in the same booth, a sensitive fan would be confused and depressed.
The basketball Hall of Fame continues to be the Hall of VERY GOOD instead ... I'm sorry but guys like Bosh and BWallace don't belong and even Webber to me shouldn't but his college days and what the Fab 5 meant to the game probably put him over the hump.
Interesting report on Bill Russell on Lawrence O'Donnell show last night. Stuff I hadn't known. Russell always said he wasn't a basketball player, he was a man who played basketball. He was a pallbearer at Jackie Robinson's funeral. He accompanied Red Auerbach on a tour of the Auschwitz death camp. Early in his career a restaurant refused to serve Black Celtics, so Russell refused to play that evening, saying if he couldn't eat in a city he wouldn't play there.
Really stoked to see Rick make the HOF! He was always one of my favorite coaches ....his teams were fun to watch.
Rick didn't make the hall of fame as a coach because of his time with the Kings trying to make it to the finals or any of his other stops on his coaching journey. Adelman made it because he led our team to the finals twice. He's the second greatest coach in Blazers history and this is a big deal for our team today. Congratulations Rick, you deserve it!!!
