I vaguely remember it being that way from the beginning. I don't think the players' taxes were going to cover the whole cost.

All for not paying tax, if they generate a positive, but I doubt this State would ever think that way. Thats the way we need to think.

Id favor zero state tax in lieu of a sales tax.

If someone was smart (and we know that'll never happen), they'd propose 0% income tax, and much lower property tax and make a sales tax. And put in the law that there is a cap on all 3 of them. As in, the highest income tax you can have is like 5% (and that's it) and the top property tax is like capped at whatever % the state of Washington has.

Problem is, property taxes are tapped for soooooo many things that it's probably impossible to figure it out, and whoever proposes a change just says "we'll have a sales tax!" and nothing would be done to the other 2 to compensate.

Yup..... the government doesn't get rid of taxes. They only add new ones. They will never get rid of the property or income taxes, and I often wonder how long it will be before we have enough people move here to finally get the sales tax passed.

We miss so much additional revenue from tourist on one of our largest industries.

That's great......... except I don't want to be the highest taxed state in the union.

Vegas makes no sense. They're running out of water, and still continue to grow. I just don't see enough support in Sin City. They're private dollars would be better spent on pipelines from the Pacific Coast & Desalination plants. Portland would be great place. Population is there to support it. Older folks love baseball , and will go. Hipsters and other youthful groups will go cause it's new. Plus the Stadium Design Plan is fantastic, and great place to spend a wonderful spring to fall day/evening. Vegas can suck it.

Build it and they will come — eventually.

That’s literally the only way: put pressure on the MLB instead of begging.

That’s why this campaign never took off. This same route will have the same result as the Expos pitch.

I do agree, that the Portland Baseball Group needs to have their shit together, and show the League that they are GO GUNS on getting the Stadium Built. No if, ands , or Buts. In other words, get team, dirt moving next day.

PDX Diamond Project have been very straightforward that they prefer to own the team not have a team with owners already move here. They'd take the 2nd option if that was the only way, but the fact still remains that if an expansion team is the goal then having the A's move to Vegas is the best possible chance Portland has of getting a team.

I still plan on moving back to PDX in the future, and I just want to see a Major League Baseball Franchise in the Rose City one way or another.

Some don't see it that way but i tend to agree expansion is probably the best option for Portland rather than getting a team to move here. I personally like the idea better.

as long as Portland truly gets a fair break on this. The stadium plan is fabulous and dynamic. I'd hate to see a city like Montreal, who blew it with a bad stadium, and poor attendance to get baseball back. To me, MLB should expand by 2 cities, Portland & Nashville.
