I literally thought the same thing about NO and the idea that he's about to be fired or knows he has a job for life. Figured now is the time for him to leave PDX. We didn't have valet before, and we sure ain't gonna have it now (after COVID).
I guess we would need to watch press conferences for all NBA GMs to really gauge how awful he is. Trust me, I don’t think he’s the most likeable guy. But a press conference right after your season ends in shitty fashion and two days after firing your coach isn’t the best time for warm and fuzzy. And again, Neil is not without his faults by no means. His personality isn’t one that’s suited for fun conversations when it comes to his work.
Unless there are some notable changes (beyond just a new coach) this summer, I am fully prepared to significantly lower my expectations for next year. I generally have unrealistic, slightly (but not overly) homerish optimism as we head into a new year. If we have essentially the same roster with only a new coach, I'll have some slight reason for optimism but the continuation of an unbalanced roster and a relatively short, defensively weak backcourt, puts a huge damper on any excessive enthusiasm. If I'm Powell, I don't resign here unless I have huge confidence in the new coach AND Olshey pulls a typical Olshey move and overpays for him to come back. Maybe, just maybe, a new coach can get the concept of team play through CJ's head (perhaps a new coach would even have the balls to bench him for his selfishness) along with a concept of team defense. Two things that often impressed me about other teams (even those that were supposedly not good) was that they actually put effort into defense and they actually played as a team (in general). If I wasn't already a Blazer fan, nothing Stotts had the team doing would make me one. Too much standing around and iso-ball. Boring ball. Just be curious about what next year brings. And please Nurk - keep making your comments. You are just stating what many of us feel - frustration with the current environment. Gramps....
stalking Chris McGowan's twitter, he seems to have recently followed this account: https://twitter.com/sjcarmike The CEO of a headhunting firm for sports executives. Other clients: https://www.prodigysearch.net/clients.html hmmmm I've long said McGowan's twitter account is fairly transparent about our future plans/moves.
When OLSHEY talked about adding a defensive specialist in DJJ I realized that the team won’t look too much different next season ...defensive specialist.... we had No defensive specialists
it’s just weird since most GMs that get hired are just retreads or already work for a front office in some capacity. I dunno why they need to go through a third party.
I finally just got time to watch the full interview. I’m confused why there is such backlash. What did he say that was so bad?
we can only hope and pray that is the case! Maybe yesterday's presser will hurry things along! Get that "schyster" the hell outta here
Ive heard other GM's interviewed before and they all have their spin. What Neil said yesterday wasn't different in how others respond to reporters. In fact I thought he got specific on several fronts like Defense, Nurk and this towns inability to attract FA's/trades etc. Most company executives are nit going to share their laundry list or short long term strategies with a group of reporters and fan forum freaks. This operation is not de-centralized. Neil is the conduit to Jody & Bert who call ALL the shots, imo. To me its like a church denomination that changes pastors/preachers but the denomination tenants stay the same.
