Pulled plug last year, haven't been a fan of Hulu live quality in comparison. And bandwidth isn't an issue.

On my Roku TV I can get any number of streaming providers. I have Hulu and they have Sports NW. I do not have cable so will not be able to get Root TV unless they begin streaming.

just about everybody in North America knows who Wayne Gretsky is. Who is the iconic star for American professional soccer?

Because it used to be one of the big 4 doesn't mean it has to stay there, or soccer not elevated into at the least making it a big 5. The need to pull an all time great that hasn't played this century to say why hockey is there just kind of helps proves my point.

How can it be a major sports league if we only get over the hill stars? We're basically the Chinese league for soccer players.

Because I don’t watch Blazer games. If they really wanted to watch they would go to my in-laws a few blocks away.

aside from a few exceptions, this is a very 2011 take.

So prove me wrong. Is the MLS on the same level as the EPL?

Why does it have to be the best league in the world to be one of the top sports in the US?

“Flag on the play. We have an illegal goalpost move” :P

Of course not what a silly question to even ask. I mean Barcelona and Madrid play in a league that isn’t even on the Same level as the Premier League. All you have to do is look at the top players in MLS to see how off the over the hill stars argument is. You’re thinking of Beckham years which was a long time ago friend.

I mean..... NBA... NFL.... MLB.... NHL..... are there leagues comparable to those four in other countries?

But the MLS isn't even, what, the second or third best leagues?

Not really. My contention from the very beginning is that the NBA, MLB, NFL and NHL are the best leagues in the world for their respective sports. The MLS isn't even in the top three for their sport.

And my response was to the incorrect archaic statement that it’s an over the hill Chinese Super League which is what I responded to.

as to the top for their sport, imo you’re taking a very US only sports view of it which is just an apples to oranges comparison. How many countries in the world are The big 4 absolutely big deals in? The amount of leagues for For those are a fraction of the amount of leagues in the world. Let alone high level competition. Of the other sport.

Again, what difference does it make if MLS is the top soccer league in France when we're talking about the big whatever in U.S. sports?

You can enjoy the MLS. That's fine. I'm not taking anything away from that. But whether they're big in other countries makes little difference, are you going to contest that those four leagues have the best players in the world for those sports?

The MLS is basically like watching AAA baseball. It's not the best. That's why I never really enjoyed watching high school sports. At least on the college level you still get to see some of the best before they go pro. How many MLS players have gone up to the higher leagues? I know some have, but not many.

This isn’t about justifying the level of play compared to the top level of the sport elsewhere though. (Tbh it would be nice for ticket prices if it was less popular lol).

it’s a disagreement of what makes it a “big league” in your black and white definition. The drop off from NBA to say ACB is miles bigger than the drop off from EPL to Liga, Bundesliga or more in their respective sport. It seems like you’re putting your enjoyment as a reason to not include it. Which of course is your prerogative but for me is entirely apples to oranges like I mentioned.

as to players signing with MLS and moving onto better things it’s just a different beast in soccer. The best of the best (from any nationality) are plucked for youth academies at a young age.

Again your prerogative but imo it’s weird to compare a league that’s been around like 25 years to others that have a legit century on it and expect it to be on the same level. but in the same post talk about the traditional big four like there is anything even in the same stratosphere elsewhere to give it competition to be the best.

But it is..... because this is about me justifying whether I should include it when I'm counting the number of pro teams each big market has compared to Portland

I could also include Overwatch league teams as well, if you'd like? :devilwink:

It really isn’t though amigo. I think you’re assuming I’m trying to put on the same level as the other leagues. Hell MLS isn’t even on the same level from a roster wide standpoint than Liga MX down south. But by your arbitrary definition, Liga MX wouldn’t be a big league down there because it’s not as good as England, Spain, or Germany.
Cute strawman on the overwatch league though :)
