why cant an organization hire who they feel is best qualified to meet their needs, regardless of age, religion, race, sex? We just elected a 78 year old Pres.

...they absolutely can and should, but I'm just basing this off of Lillards comments regarding Vanterpool not getting T-wolves job and other quotes over the years :dunno: if there was ever a time to value your superstars opinion on the matter (good or bad), then now is that time. Hire the wrong guy here and Lillard could have one foot out the door before next season even starts.

Watching this made me think it would be a good idea for Olshey to ask Chris Paul's agent to ask Chris what he thought of D'Antoni.

The most relevant thing Stephen A said there was in regards to Kidd taking his name out of the running because people in Portland just wanted to bring up his past instead of just judging him on his coaching merits. It's this same reason I wouldn't be surprised to see Billups take the Celtics job (assuming it's offered) over Portland, if the same old stuff keeps getting brought up throughout the hiring process

Bring in D'Antoni for a season or two, let him pick a really really solid coaching staff. Create some sort of coaching emeritus role for him and promote from within the new head coach.

I do think that when Pops decides to step down the Spurs will do something similar.

And no, I'm not saying D'Antoni is as good of coach as Pops, lol.

The goal is to find a HC that matches the remaining best years of Lillard's career and then build for the future.

    or

    Hire Udoka.

If we're hiring Mike's I'd hire Mike Brown over Mike D'Antoni ......D'Antoni has a history of pissing off players....D Howard left the Lakers because of him, Chris Kaman couldn't sniff the court with him and hated him and Melo hated him in NY....he's also never won anything as a head coach...if we're going for old retreads I'd go with more defensive minded veteran coaches. I'd also go younger now and move forward, not rent an old guy...Mike also changes teams like some folks change socks.

I think D'Antoni will make the game easier for Dame.

I don't think anyone eligible for social secrutiy benefits should be president either.....we elected the only choice to another old white guy....and D'Antoni hasn't won shit in the NBA....he doesn't stick anywhere for long

I don't see the plus side of the guy head coaching our roster at all.....I want a defensive minded coach and hopefully one that can stick around for as long as Terry did...the coach who comes in and teaches Dame to play defense on a string is going to make the game easier for Dame...he already knows how to put up volume shots...I've never been a fan of D'Antoni...he's with a team that will probably win it all this season and already he's looking to move again

Yes, he took a position to help out a former player. If they win the championship it's time him to move on.

agree about President. Mike almost beat one of the best teams ever assembled, Warriors but CP went down and game 7 I think they missed 20 plus three pointers. lol
If they are not able to spring lose guy like Spolestra, I really would like to see Eme get a shot, local boy comes home. Billups would be ok too.
Whoever they get its a roll of the dice and may end up losing more games than Stotts at his new team.

I'd like to see a younger coach with a feel for the modern game.....I'd hire Billups personally as a rookie coach. Billups is the guy who'd make the game easier for Dame given the way he ran the Pistons as the captain...Mr. Big Shot should coach Mr Clutch....

I think the issue was a combo of things. Him assaulting his wife + his so so coaching.

It is. They're not minor issues. But time has gone on. People change. How long do you punish a person for past transgressions? Do you think Lakers fans were up in arms about Kidd's domestic assault when he joined their coaching staff? Not saying Kidd's domestic abuse issue wasn't a big deal, it was, but it was 20 years ago. He paid his price. He didnt murder someone.

He hasn't proven to be a good coach. That should be the reason not to pursue him. Not half assed articles and tweet jabs at his past

Nobody in Boston is bringing up allegations that Billups had against him 24 years ago. It's really just Portland. That was 24 years ago. He's beloved in multiple cities, is a champion, and people here want to bring up alleged issues from 1997. Bring on David Vanterpool I guess. Checks all the fuzzy boxes anyway

Do you think Portland will hire a new coach before Boston?
The more I think about it the more I like Ime as our new coach. Consider who's he's been around for a number of years and he seems to be balanced not only with O&D but how he deals with players. Players I think like and respect him but I feel he would zero problem dealing players not following his instructions.
