was universally lauded for his defense. kept them afloat only because of his defense when lebron/AD were out.

ignorant to think he didn't have a massive impact-- even lebron said so.

no coach is going to take a job because of a fanbase.

dame's future here isn't set in stone. probably not going anywhere, but who knows for certain?

    I'd rank the openings:

    1. Pelicans
    2a/2b. Boston/Portland
    4. Orlando
    5. Indiana
    6. Washington

i didn't say i'd hire him, just countered your notion that retreads don't work.

lmao man said pelicans. Coaches will always take a vet team over a team with a bunch of young players that haven’t proven to be able to win. Always. They don’t like to be fired either.

Hasnt D'Antoni coach three MVPS - Harden, Westbrook, Nash? and has a career winning % just above Stotts?

That is a valid point. MDA is now--what--70 years old? It isn't an age renowned for revolutionary thinking. So maybe he may not continue to be cutting edge. But I still think he has a lot of cred.

I wouldn’t say it’s very rare. The NBA coaching carousel seems like it’s constant. There’s only 1 champion every year.

To me, hiring a retread - a veteran coach who goes from job to job, does fine, but not title winning, is a cop out. It gives a GM and team the chance to say "well he was an experienced guy who won before, so it wasnt a bad hire'. They need to go the way of Memphis with Taylor Jenkins, Borrego/Charlotte, Nurse, Kerr, etc. Yes, Nate M and Thibs have worked out for Atlanta and NYK - for now. We will see if they have long term success. It can work, but I don't want to see it personally. Even Quinn Snyder, his HC experience was college and G league, and was more than ready for Utah. Its all a crap shoot, but its just my preference this time around.

I'm hearing that the next coach of the Blazers will have basketball experience and probably played it when they were a kid.

I'm pretty sure we're going to get a rookie head coach....the only retreads that I'm interested are already employed, Spoelstra, Nurse, Popovich Snyder and Monty Williams.

SVG apparently had 3 yrs left on his deal on 5 mil per.

Maybe their owner will cheap out and not pay out the nose for a good candidate.

100% there are secrets in the NBA. When Mark Jackson got fired in GS, there were secrets/reasons why that nobody knew about. Maybe Hammon will become a HC, become a hard working, humble, appropriate, professional coach.
