Ranking the 6 Head Coach Job Openings It's "exclusive" ESPN content but here's the highlight - they rank the Blazers 6th. As in the worst... The rest of the teams are ranked: #5: Washington #4: Orlando #3: Indiana #2: New Orleans #1: Boston Have a good rest of your day everyone.
Probably not. But I doubt the coach gets fired. If we get a half decent coach, it will be a large buyout. And if we finally fire Olshey, it reflects on what people think of the overall roster build more than coaching philosophy. Especially if you believe that the Vulcans are going to be pulling the strings behind this hire. Easy to say “look, we tried a different coach with a similar roster and got same results. It’s time we look at the roster itself.” Boom. New Orleans GM is getting absolutely destroyed by Pelicans media right now, for what it’s worth. Unless of course we absolutely suck. The Pelicans are NOT a stable franchise at ALL.
Blazers position is high risk, but I can't imagine there hasn't been dialogue between Olshey and Billups before this all went down. Blazers position also likely pays more, so there is that to take into consideration.
I'm not sure it's that bad, but I think a lot of Blazer fans are overrating the attractiveness of the HC job
At the end of the day, there's only 30 of these jobs. And only so many openings. More attractive or not, I would think whoever acts first in making a solid offer will land who they want to land. I wonder how much of a risk one would take in turning down an offer, and then potentially not landing one of the other jobs. Chauncey comes in and interviews today, let's say. We love him. Make him a big offer. Is he turning it down? What if he's not the top choice of anywhere else, and they all land their top coach? Does he risk passing on a big offer for a maybe, and then have to be an assistant for another season?
They just fired Stotts because of it. That one is impossible to predict. Fair enough. If that is the baseline, then sure, Blazers playoff chances in a vacuum are better than the Pelicans. I think this is where we disagree. Moving forward, Pelicans Growth Potential > Blazers Growth Potential as the rosters stand now, imo. The new coaches of their respective teams will have a big impact on that though too, so I guess we will just have to wait and see. The team is more than just Zion, but yeah, he's only 21. Again, that is impossible to predict, but if you are making that assumption then sure. If job security is #1 priority and someone gives you a guarantee that you won't get fired as long you make the playoffs, then this whole debate is kind of moot. I don't however think the expectations of the franchises are the same. This I can't really argue with. It will take other players on New Orleans to improve for the team to make that leap. I still think the two jobs are about equal.
At the point I will be relieved when we can talk about an actual coach, whoever he/she is, instead of endless speculation. At least the A's keep winning.
think this is where Neil's relationship with Warren LeGarie or whoever the coaches' agents are comes into play.
I have been all about fresh eyes this entire time but now I want Mike D'Antoni. It's a total 180 but I have my reasons. I think if we bring MDA in with a younger defensive specialist that everyone agrees is his heir apparent that a lot of great things can happen. MDA will unlock Dame and Dame will win an MVP and it will likely happen next season. So our offense will get even better. Our defense will get better because how could it get worse. I think if it's the right defensive associate head coach and if CJ is moved, we'll actually be contenders. D'Antoni is the only known commodity among the candidates being mentioned and that's a big deal. So I say we roll the dice and see if not only Dame can buck his trend of not having success in the playoffs but if with the right moves, this team can be the one that gets D'Antoni a chip.
Yes. With Lillard age 30, this is not the team to take this 50-50 gamble: that a rookie coach may or may not come up to speed in 2023, after a 2-year learning curve.
They are or have interviewed Billups and Hammon this week. They can agree now and make it official after LA is eliminated
Sign and trade Ball + a #1 pick for CJ. Re-sign Powell and with Ant, our guard group ain’t bad. All other efforts via draft and/or trade should then be made for a SF. Sign a vet PF that is known for defense. Re-sign Kanter and Melo
