A little bit of an advantage? Is this Neil’s burner account?

I know you love Zach, and yeah, the draft is 50% crap-shoot....but there is just no denying that Portland's 2017 draft was a major blown opportunity

Zach was the 10th player taken, but among that draft class he ranks:

    30th in games
    31st in minutes
    30th in points
    19th in rebounds
    33rd in assists

    25th in FG%
    33rd in 3ptFG%
    32nd in FT%

    28th in minutes/game
    30th in points/game
    15th in rebounds/game

    24th in winshares
    27th in winshare/48
    29th in BPM

he has performed a long ways below his draft slot, and that's not all because of missing nearly 2 full seasons. Portland played 310 regular season games over Zach's rookie scale contract. Zach played in 154. That's actually less than half the games. That right there is enough to count his selection as a failure

I'm fine with the Blazers re-signing Zach and giving him an opportunity to live up to the potential some of you see. But not at 10M/year. It should be half that and it should not be guaranteed for more than 1 season. That's his value. Hopefully, Olshey learned his lessons in 2016 and for once, won't bid against himself for one of 'his' guys

Contract is decided the point and no I wouldn't give Zach 10 million a year but I would give him his qualify of 7 million over 2 years that's give him a chance to show us if he worth more. Yes l do like him because he does little things that helps the team to win. He something has know one else has he plays with emotions that this team lacking Nurk use have that but didn't see it last year. Plus he improve every year maybe not to what everyone hopes but it's improvement. Offense it's about opportunities and we found out this year playing along Dame and CJ any other guard on that team there very few opportunities to really be able raise your stats on the offense end. But with new and new system maybe that will change we will see. Defensely and do the little things like sitting good picks or making a block out nowhere to change the game those things that doesn't show up in the box scores. Plus with getting good minutes been pretty good we made it wcf with his defense and we had pretty record last year in the bubble last year. I would give him his qualify amount to 7 plus for 2 years with a team option for the 2nd.

Collins isn't even worth the mle much less 10 mil. That's a joke. He's nearly a league minimum guy now.

That's your opinion and it's the qualifying offer not the MLE and the MLE is almost 10 million anyway.

I'd try to get Collins to sign a long term value contract. Something that he has a chance of outplaying. Honestly who is going to offer him more? I'd look at Jakob Poeltl as a comparison. 3 years/27 million. Collins has shown significantly less than Poeltl when he signed that deal, so I'd look for something like 3/21, with the last year being a team option.

like I said, I'm fine with giving him another shot, just not for much money and not for more than 1 guaranteed year

the problem I see is that Zach is not a good PF. He's mobile, but hi isn't mobile enough to consistently and effectively defend all the SF's posing as PF's in the NBA these days. Zach is more suited to C. RoCo is a better PF; so was Aminu.

82 games tracks positional breakdowns for players. If you go back to the 2018-19 season, the last time Zach played without injuries, his positional breakdown looked like this:

    upload_2021-6-19_10-24-12.png

    http://www.82games.com/1819/18POR15.HTM

none of it looks particularly good, but the differentials are just better as a C. That, coupled with the apparent acceleration of the small-ball trend in the NBA sure indicates to me that Zach is not suited to be a PF. So, unless Nurkic is traded, Zach would be signed to be a backup C more than anything else

How many centers are getting paid around the league? Hassan Whiteside had a career year and had to go play for the minimum. Collins ain't worth it.

I have gave my opinion about him and you gave me yours so I will expect that it's your opinion. But stats are just one of the tools how evaluate someone play.

That's acceptable type contract and if he shows more then you can pay him if not then either trade him of let him as UFA.

If the NBA would bring back hand checking, you would see big men come back.

I still don't think they should give up on Harry Giles. He is much leaner than Nurk, but he essentially has the same standing reach and wing span. He is more athletic and can shoot better from the 3 pt line. Not saying he is more effective than Nurk because he is not, but on paper, he seems to be a solid backup center when the goal is to defend the perimeter.

I hope this does not turn into another Moses Brown scenario where we think he sucks because he never got a chance. Granted he did not look great when he did play, but he definitely showed flashes of being skilled at most things. (Decent passer, ball-handler, runs the floor, blocks shots, hits some 3's, decent FT shooter.) He is not the offensive rebounder as a Kanter, but few are.

I rather have Nurk then Clint. The only Clint can is dunk and he decent rim protector is most cases. If Nurk will get out of own head and go out and just play. Plus Nurk more rounded player then Clint.

Collins is Giles-quality. Too thin to do anything. Only Olshey thinks Collins is a starter.

True is we don't know nothing about Collins at this point. Nothing, John Snow.
