Jody is the owner. If she wanted her way she would have it her way. This almost sounds like it’s gonna be Billups and if it doesn’t work out people will remember whose call it was, or more specifically wasn’t.
If only there was some way for the owner to settle that impasse... Here's hoping Olshey says "it's Hammon or me!"
Man...... I'm super nervous about this. If Becky is the best candidate, hire her. But I really really really hope we don't put Dame's prime in the backseat to being the first team to hire a woman head coach. I wish Calvin hadn't found out all that negative stuff because I would have been super pumped before hearing those rumors.
He has a source in the Spurs organization. Source said basically that she's lazy, the players tune her out, and the team feels trapped and can't fire her. That's me summarizing.
If Billups really is Olshey's guy I see no reason he shouldn't push hard for him. If next season goes south it doesn't really matter who is coaching the team. Olshey's head is the first one that's getting chopped regardless. Get the guy who you believe will do the best job.
That's discouraging that the owner of our team would make a crucial decision on that basis. It's like keeping Melo so we can say a legend played for us.
Yeah, I also don't like that the owner is pushing for a hire because of non-basketball reasons. Hammon may be a good coach, but what does Jody know? She's not a basketball person, we know she's not a basketball person. If the main reason she's pushing for a hire is because of non-basketball reasons then I really question whether or not she's truly the right candidate.
Like I said.... it really makes me nervous. If we get this hire wrong, we most likely piss away 2 more years of Dame's prime.
Well it's not solely based on this hire, but if we're a 1st round exit again next year I think Dame will ask for a trade. (And he probably should be traded anyways)
Maybe she been talking to people that's actually no basketball and remember Billups still has that thing that still out there when was young pro.
I just keep going back to the Spurs... if Becky was the true heir apparent, there's no freaking way they let her go. Pop would step aside. The team is nowhere near competing for a title right now. It's concerning that she's out interviewing and they don't seem to care.
I don't think this is right, I think non-basketball reasons are OK. Why? Uncertainty. Your logic assumes certainty we don't have. If the margin of error is too large, then one should use additional metrics. Personally, I hope we don't hire Becky. I feel the downsides outweigh the upsides. However, if we do hire her, it's not obviously wrong.
Well she hired someone that is supposed to know basketball, and is the one leading the coaching search.
I also agree the downsides outweigh the upsides in this case. And yeah, non-basketball reasons should be considered. And in most cases they have to be considered. I just don't like that it seems to be the main thing that is being considered, at least by Jody.
If I'm Jody (and I want Becky), I say something like "If Billups is clearly better, show me. If not, choose Becky."
