I have a list but best deals electronics which I don't need much. Question, would adding a router to living room improve streaming on TV? Router in another room and having trouble with Roku but not other devices.

...how old is the Roku? Newer versions have better WiFi cards

Ethernet direct to TV (or streaming device) would be best.

I assume your streaming device is wireless - a router just splits a single external ip into an internal local ip range - so adding another one will do nothing for speed.

Assuming that the initial connection you have that comes into the house is adequate - the issue is one of the following:

The speed the router has (if it is an old one, might be time to replace it)
The strength of the signal where you want to consume it (options are upgrading the router to a modern one or adding coverage)
The speed of the consumer (If this is an old Roku box, it might not have up to date wifi support).

So, adding another router is not going to do anything. You either replace, enhance it to provide access if the signal where you want to consume is bad or upgrade the consumer.

FWIW - We have multiple brick walls in the house - brick really hurts transmission speed and strength. The solution for us was to upgrade our router into a modern Mesh router (went with an Eero one, but they are all good) - and it solved the problem. Because I also wanted service in the garage which is a separate building, I also installed a beacon in the house at the closest place to the garage (a beacon for a mesh system is like a repeater for old Wifi systems but without speed loss) - and it allowed us to get service there as well.

So, If you want some more concrete advice - tell us what you have now - maybe it will be obvious where the bottleneck is.

Or she could just hang her existing router about 3/4 up on the wall.

Her router could be fine, it might just have too many things blocking the signal.

    Just out of the box.

I had a Roku that I needed help setting up but worked great. Sling was basic streaming service. When playoffs began added YouTube Tv for extra channels. One evening YouTube TV just stopped, although everything else worked. After usual fixes didn't work called YouTube TV. Rep told me to change settings on Roku although I said everything else worked perfectly. Upshot, Roku lost all connection. After hours with everyone Roku said to return for replacement. I had Comcast Flex, very bare bones. Since replacement likely to take some time got Amazon fire stick. But neither device has all my channels or my fitness program. So got replacement Roku. It won't connect with Xfinity wifi. Spent very long time with Roku, then Comcast. No help. Can't understand why other devices connected with no problem but Roku won't. Scheduled independent person to come tomorrow. This is very abbreviated summary of very frustrating time. Later learned YouTube TV no longer streams on Roku and that is why it stopped. Never anything wrong with system.

If the Fire TV stick worked fine with whatever channels you did get - and the Roku did not, it sounds like a Roku setup issue, not a basic wifi issue.

OK, hope they tech can figure it out.
In fact I have two Rokus. I had created a ticket and when UPS confirmed returned Roku arrived I emailed them asking for replacement. Didn't know return automatically triggered replacement. I am reluctant to give away extra because of setup issues.
My trainer said I need to find a 12 year old!

I picked up a new laptop from Best Buy. I'm currently building a recording studio, so it was needed. Figured I was going to get the best deal today. Solid specs that will be used exclusively for recording. I'm excited.

Consumer Reports suggested checking other sources since Target and other retailers are having their own sales. I found an item on my list for $10 less at Target.
