Suns announced hire of Monty Williams on May 3, 2019. Monty was still an assistant with Philly in the playoffs who got eliminated from Round 2 of the playoffs on May 12, 2019.
Ha since when is being a D1 head coach for non-competitive people? It’s not like he’s sitting on the beach sipping martinis. Anyway, the whole point was just that he’s a great guy and if I was him, that would be a dream job.
Lot of guys like Steph Curry are sitting out the Olympics....doesn't mean they aren't competitive...just means they need a life outside of the grind of an NBA season....I've traded my time for money all my life and now I'm trading money for time....plan to die broke. If I want my competitive juices to get a boost I'll just beat my son in ping pong.
So if we're to read the tea leaves, Becky had her second interview on Monday, Billups was Tuesday (since Windhorst reported of Dame's presence there on Wed). Guessing MDA was yesterday. No announcement yet indicates that either: 1. It's Billups (if they want to follow this idea of not announcing til he's eliminated) - this also gives them time to work out the PR response for his past. 2. Someone else out of left field is getting an interview (recall that even Woj didn't even have the Pacers interviewing Carlisle). 3. MDA interview hasn't yet happened. But we should cross off Becky, I'm guessing.
Woj said yesterday they’ll be interviewing Billups and Mda a second time in the next day or two. Dame sitting in was probably during the first interview. I think tomorrow is the day. Or maybe after the clippers game tonight.
Fairly sure they can't officially announce anything until after the team is eliminated or unless Billups steps down from his role.
i missed this. ok so no point holding my breath for today. Guessing we'll find out either tmrw or Monday.
Officially-- maybe, but there's nothing stopping news from getting out. Suns GM James Jones said this about the Monty Williams hire 10 days before Monty's team got eliminated from the playoffs: "Monty brings a wealth of NBA experience, both as a coach and former player, in addition to being a high-character individual who will infuse basketball wisdom and life lessons into our locker room," Suns general manager James Jones said in a release announcing the move. "Monty is well respected for his coaching pedigree, leadership and commitment to the community, all of which make him the ideal person to lead our team moving forward."
