But seriously though, how do you go about vetting that?

idk, that’s not my job. But I’m certain it was by those who it is.

I think it's more likely that they decided that they could live with the backlash for Billups, but not for Kidd.

I don’t think they ever considered Kidd. Olshey was set on Billups the whole time, I’m sure of it.

According to Woj, the public outrage isn’t going to derail the signing.

Paraphrasing Adrian Wojnarowski: Blazers know that multiple organizations have vetted Chauncey Billups' sexual assault from 1997 and felt comfortable enough with his version of events to hire him. They also asked Billups about this on Wednesday and his version of events was consistent with what other organizations had found. The Blazers continued through Thursday and Friday to do as much digging as possible on this allegation and felt comfortable enough in hiring him in a head coaching capacity.

The Blazers organization and other organizations before it likely know more than ANY of us, so when it comes to an allegation that may or may not be true and was never proven, I'm going to put my trust these organizations properly vetted this allegation.

    Woj's direct quote:

"The Blazers met with Chauncey Billups in Seattle on Wednesday and he was convinced that he was their choice after that meeting, but I'm told they continued their own internal investigation into those charges Thusday and Friday before they offered him that job Friday night. Portland knows that Chauncey Billups had been vetted by a number of other organizations prior to this process including the Clippers who hired him as an assistant coach last year and the Cleveland Cavaliers who previously offered Chauncey Billups an elevated position: President of Basketball Operations. They didn't rely on those probes, and I'm told in their conversations with Chauncey Billups he recounted his version of those events a number of times, including with Neil Olshey, the president of basketball operations and their owner Jody Allen, and those aligned with what their investigations had found. So they're continuing now to finish a contract, terms on a deal, and you can expect Chauncey Billups introduced as the Blazers new head coach, perhaps as soon as early next week."

Take this for what you will I guess.

I see what you did there. You overreached. I did not comment or make anything with respect to Billups or an alleged rape allegation. I said everyone has baggage. In response to you saying Portland couldn’t find someone without baggage. Nice try, though, to twist what I said. Kudos. Par for your fucking golf course. You needn’t try so hard to make a point.

    “It’s not Canzano’s fault that

    A. Billups was involved in whatever
    B. The Blazers hired him with others available with no baggage“

In no way did I defend Billups or accusations of rape. It was pretty obvious I was referring to the point of finding someone “without baggage”. I’m baffled by people who make such a strong leap. I even commented specifically on Hammons and not Billups.

Based on what Woj said, the Blazers knew on Wednesday, but spent two days doing their own investigations. The news about Ime Udoka and Boston also came out on Wednesday and the reports there was that Billups was actually their first choice. So it certainly sounds like Boston knew at that point and Billups actually chose Portland over Boston even though many people had the Boston job as being more coveted than this one.

which I’m still confused by. Celtics were a .500 club that just lost their starting point guard. Tatum and Brown are good players, but neither is on Lillards level. Beyond those two is their roster really that much better? And like Portland they also don’t have a first round pick.

These days I've become cynical and skeptical of everything.

How legit is this ? Or is it simply Woj parroting Neil's damage control. I really want to believe them.

I don't think it really matters. If you think Chauncey did it, this won't convince you otherwise. If you think he's innocent or "don't know" this won't affect your opinion either. What it does tell me is that Olshey doesn't really care either way, he's hiring Billups.

Well I'm just wondering what exactly they can find out that isn't available. I'm sure they probably can't talk to her about it, but talking to Billups about what happened isn't exactly the best way to confirm it either. At the end of the day, if there was some kind of smoking gun that absolved him, I have to think he would have played that card to get out of trouble in the first place.

Ya but if getting a job here means Billups' name gets drawn thru the mud, he might withdraw

Maybe, but I don't really see any outrage aside from:

    1. Blazersedge and Reddit, which they are not going to care about
    2. Twitter, which is just a cesspool altogether
    3. Canzano, who would have found something to gripe about no matter who was hired

I don't particularly think the Blazers or Chauncey are concerned about those....
