I think the Chauncey story has actually been dead for 20 fucking years. It was confirmed dead by ESPN and the Clippers but neither of them refused to answer questions about how they confirmed it and told the press to take their word for it that they were thorough, only to have the press find out that they weren't almost four weeks later. The Olshey story is very much alive.

So if she said no (i.e., exonerating CB), that would then open her up to potential slander charges. If i was Chauncey, and she all the sudden goes "oh wait, i was wrong after 24 years " I'd sue her for slander against my character. especially after settling on it in court, and taking his $.

LMAO , I meant the end of my discussion with you...someone is trigger.

I choose to ignore discussing this anymore, and you can choose to keep discussing it with the small group of people and waste your time.

There is one thing in all of this we know is a fact, and that's that Billups is the Blazers head coach!!

The only facts are as follows

    1. Chauncey Billups is the head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers.

You either accept that, or you don’t and fuck off. Simple. The majority of the people on here don’t want to keep beating a dead, scratch that- cremated, horse. This is a basketball board. Maybe reddit or blazers edge is more your speed.

It's not new yesterday, this is now "old news", at least on s2. I and others read it and had a significant discussion. (it just wasn't posted to si, then) Btw, it doesn't really contain anything new.

I do get your point, if people want to discuss whatever, they should be able to.

However, I also see the other POV. I don't really want to see discussions of Kyrie's Flat Earth theory, even if it is "new and improved." Also, The idea that the media reports "news", it seems to me to be an antiquated concept. Online "News" will report anything that they think will get them clicks.

Actually, I’d ask one of the mods to move any non basketball discussion regarding Billups to the OT part of the forum.

That's a very solid assumption but when you say a thorough investigation that doesn't include assumptions that can be taken care of with a simple phone call. So when Jane Doe's current lawyer comes out and says that there has been no attempt to contact them, the former DA and current DA's office say no attempt was made to contact them and the police say the same thing... seriously how the fuck can that qualify as thorough?

the mod was the one who posted the defector piece that led to the OPB article. this is very much part of the blazers now, no matter how much it sucks. until there are games and we start winning, this will be. Let's just hope nothing else surfaces in the next few months.

I'm sorry man. Like it or not this is the Trail Blazers section and this is a very specifically Trail Blazers topic.

Chauncey is going to have a good year, thats just my guess. And ai do think Neil and He will work well together in improving the team.

he probably shouldn’t have, but at least it was a separate thread with a clear title that I could easily choose not to click on. I don’t wanna open this specific thread and see people going in circles.

I think the idea is that...
There was a mob, there was a trial, the evidence was presented, Billups was exonerated.

Now, people want to talk some more? Fine, but to some of us, it feels more like whining then wanting to examine anything resembling facts.

I've merged a few threads into this one but this thread is about the hiring of Billups and all of this is directly on topic with that.

We do have a separate thread for Billups coaching staff.

If you want to make a new thread about his coaching style or play calling but I think this thread is fine.

i think the traction the OPB piece is getting (no matter how much they buried the lede in confirming Chauncey's innocence) might be the final nail in the coffin for Olshey.

This kinda thing is not unheard of. A Ringer article about Bryan Colangelo's burner accounts cost him his job in Philly, and that was far less scandalous.

If you scroll back you can see that some people were irritated that I started a 2nd tread when that new article came out.

That would be a mistake. Throughout this process, I have not seen anything that says Billups has not been forthcoming and open during his hiring about what happened that night. Seems to me that it's the process that was used to hire him. If someone is going to fired over this it needs to be Olshey.

It doesn't seem that the team did what Olshey said they did. That's the story here. Honestly, every one of these stories that has addressed the Chauncey side of this thing has made him seem more innocent than he did when the DA exonerated him 22 years ago and neither the accuser or evidence placed him in the room.

That being said, this last article wasn't about Chauncey's innocence or guilt it was about the hiring process itself and whether (as Olshey promised) there was a thorough investigation by the team "because some things are bigger than basketball". When you ask everyone in the world to take your word for something, you shouldn't be arrogant enough to think the world is going to. They're going to check it out. It seems that checking it out has done nothing to make Chauncey a liar but it does seem to make Olshey one.
