It is the fans business. Without the fans the team is nothing. No fans, no money, no team.

I don't get how the point can get missed more completely. You know that information from the DA not because of the nonexistent thorough investigation that Neil said was bigger than basketball and told everyone to take his word for. You know that information because journalists went in after the fact and did the thorough investigation themselves. We did not hire Chauncey with that info. The DA's office told the reporters that reported that information that they hadn't been contacted by anyone before that. So don't try to make this about politics. It's not at all about politics. Plain and simple it's about the fact that Neil's word means absolutely nothing anymore. That's it. How do you get around that?

They would have been better off not saying anything but Neil did. Neil said that they did a thorough investigation because some things are bigger than basketball, when asked about the investigation he said that everyone would have to take his word for it and it turns out the investigation was not thorough at all.

So yeah, I guess he could have just put out a press release that said we hired Chauncey and we feel good about it and told the press to do their own investigation if they want. He didn't do that though... he said the investigation was thorough, to take his word for it but the investigation was far far from thorough and the journalists have shown that now.

So now his word is no good about something he defined as being bigger than basketball. So if he can't come through on something bigger than basketball how can he have his job in basketball?

You're right but when Olshey made a show of it and promised that it was so thorough because some things are bigger than basketball and then the press proved that Olshey's promise was a lie... it no longer became about the background check or the employee being checked.

It's now just about the fact that Olshey has been proven to be a liar... that's it.

firing him now would look bad

it would seem like the street is running the franchise (they want his head, not the ownership)

im not opposed to firing olshey, but not for the reason some fans want

however it goes, i just dont want to see chauncey billups getting fired and it makes no sense to go after neil olshey, but not chauncey billups or even ownership

IMO, there's no neat solution to this whole mess. Firing Olshey right now would put Billups in the wholly untenable position of being the cause of Olshey's firing, but expected to carry on as head coach under a new GM. Firing Chauncey, when he's done absolutely nothing wrong with respect to getting this job, would look absolutely bush league and would taint the Blazers' reputation for years. I expect that Olshey is living on borrowed time, but he's either going to have to go of his own volition or the team is going to have to wait awhile until there's enough time passed that he can be fired without taking Billups down.

Your conclusion that it was a "lie" is based on what, the reports that the lady, her attorney, and the prosecutor weren't contacted by the investigator? I'm not sure that's evidence of a lie. I think background checks are usually done on a basis of public records rather than going back to people involved in the case whose stories may change over time. I would think it would be pretty easy to find in the records information that was stated by the former prosecutor that pretty much exonerates Chauncey of having been present during the "rape" portion of the evening. Did anyone ask the woman, her attorney or the former prosecutor if ESPN or Disney ever contacted them in the past about Billups?

I wish all these people who are up in arms, would put this much work into solving the affordable housing problem, and true affordable healthcare.
