If you adjust for the increased cap thats about what we paid Evan Turner so who knows what one team could do.

Agree. Norm is a fantastic young talent, but not a max player. At least right now. Those crazy contracts of 2016, are likely gone for the majority of teams. Colvid losses, and ALL contending teams capped out or near, expect lower numbers to sign. I see something more in the 16-17 mil / 4 year range.

I'd agree the 16-20M range would be the market. Now, it may be that Portland would have to bust over the 20M mark to re-sign Powell if he doesn't want to play SF or be CJ's backup. Dame's status will complicate the situation too

by the way, Powell is 28 years old. That's not a "young" talent

I thought he was younger. With One & Done, so many of the players who have 6 years already in the league are only 25, or 26.

yeah, he was a 4-year player at UCLA and entered the NBA in 2015 when he was 22. I'm a Duck fan so I remember watching him a few times. He's always been a physical slasher type of player. He was a crappy three points shooter in college though, and the college line is a lot closer to the hoop

Coming from the tabloid NY Post: Says Thibs and NY is interested in Norm.

well, the Knicks could certainly clear that much cap-space and more. They only have 55M in guaranteed contracts (not counting 1sts)

I'd wonder if leaking they are interested in Powell is their way of pressuring Portland to engage in CJ trade talks. Or maybe, likely, they are interested in Powell more that they are CJ

If Powell signs elsewhere, should that be the final straw for Olshey's tenure in Portland? Well, obviously yes, but will it be?

Sounds like you're actively rooting for Powell NOT to re-sign with the Blazers. Are you sure you're not a Lakers fan?

As a corollary if Powell does sign here, does that tell you Dame is committed as well? Cuz aint no way Norm signs here if Dame is on the outs

If the contracts are as good as equal then he'll consider situation and playing with Dame and CJ is a bad situation.

I bet if Norm re-signs here it will be over 20M a year. A 20M year contract here is essentially a 17.8M year contract in Texas.

Norm "lives" in LV though. I wonder if he's established residency in Nevada for a reason since Nevada doesn't have state income tax.

Common misconception. Tax for athletes is spread out and apportioned by location of the games. Using your example, it's probably more like a $20M contract is $19.5M here and $18.5M in Texas.

Is there any reason to ask what contract range GTJ will be? He's a FA this summer too, correct? Am I going to just be upset when he signs a contract, thinking about what we could have if Norm doesn't stay?

He's cynical for sure. If you're looking for an uplifting message, look elsewhere.

Athletes pay more in Cali & New York. Doesn't keep them from going there. Plus it cost WAY more to live in those hot spots.
