i was looking for that one. im still not sure what he does tbh. we kinda desperately need his deal to be able to get in on some trades with our shockingly barren chest of tradeable contracts.
he’s not really in a position to pass on 10 million dollars. Opt in, rebuild value, and hit free agency next summer. He’s still young.
Quick said he was supposed to get a update on DJJ's plans last week. But his piece didn't mention DJJ at all. I'm guessing DJJ and his agent are still contemplating options. He probably couldn't get 10M on the open market, but if he could get a longer term deal for 7-8M per year I think he would want to opt out. Naive to think agents aren't talking with teams already before free agency begins to try and gauge his value on the open market.
i think he also probably knows that the moment he opts in, he's getting traded away. Will most likely play a role in his decision making.
Honestly would not be surprised if his opt-in is holding a few potential deals up. Also, don't think it's crazy that McCollum could fetch a lottery pick. Doesn't seem like many difference makers are on the market, and McCollum definitely is. More teams trying to win means teardown trades are probably easy to make right now. Presti would have a field day with our roster.
DJJ not opting in would really suck because we lack salaries to use as filler in trades. But technically, we can sign and trade Kanter or Melo for around that same amount (10M), on a 3 year deal, but just guarantee the 1st year so it acts like an expiring. The bad part about that is that the team acquiring them would get hardcapped, so it's harder to make a deal with contenders that have a large lux tax bill.
Quick mentioned Minny/Sac/Mem as three teams who were in the running for Jones last year. Highly doubt they would give up assets in a trade when he can simply opt out and sign with any of em for a similar contract if they're still interested. More and more I think he's gone.
Both Lowe and Woj just said on the NBA draft special that the Lillard situation is not going to develop this off-season. So it looks like Neil and Chauncey talked Dame off the cliff for now, probably with the caveat that if it fails again they will honor a trade request next year or at the trade deadline.
Parity will do that. People see a window right now. There isn’t a super team for the first time in a long time.
Yeah, there are a ton of reports that it's at the deadline. Unfortunately that means if Olshey fucks up and loses Norm, there will be no way for us to get to where Dame wants us to be by then. This is the most important week or two of Olshey's career and in recent Blazers history. He really should make sure CJ has been traded by the opening of free agency and if he doesn't he better be damn sure he can sell Norm on staying and playing the 3 and playing with Dame and CJ who dominate the ball.
Lowe also mentioned that the Sixers were more likely to wait out the Simmons situation. Maybe get a lead guard during the off-season and have Simmons work up his trade value at the deadline waiting for the next domino to fall (like the Blazers with Dame). They have no incentive to force a Simmons trade at the moment if there isn't one to be made.
I still think that CJ makes sense for them and that both Morey and Neil are floating things into the media to try and get the upper hand on that deal. That situation in Philly after what Doc and Embiid said about Simmons is toxic. They'll trade him, they're just trying to make sure no team thinks that the Sixers are cornered. Woj also said on that show that they are taking calls and actively making calls out in an effort to move Simmons. I kind of wonder if the Sixers are trying to get RoCo and CJ for Simmons and Thybulle. That trade would definitely make them a better team now and give them a better chance against the Nets and Bucks. I really doubt Neil wants to do that but it might be the best move because those are two young but very talented guys, they might make us much better and if they don't and Dame demands out, they're good pieces for the start of a rebuild. Honestly that's the kind of shit I think is going on right now offers and counter offers between Morey and Neil... while they're doing the same thing with other teams but like Lowe said in that show, CJ to Philly and Simmons to us just makes too much sense for both teams.
TL;DR Raptors are calling around and offering Siakam to teams, but they want a star (so presumably they're asking for Lillard and not McCollum). Morey is interested in Siakam and is doing intel work (whatever that means) for a possible Siakam/Simmons swap.
