Just an observation, but there are A LOT of player development coaches on staff

Brooks will clearly have a lot of influence, which I don't know is a good thing or not. First year head coaches generally have more than one guy with head coaching experience behind them. Like Nash (with MDA/Vaughn). But Kerr had just Gentry on his staff in 14/15 so it's not unfathomable that Chauncey has a successful staff. I think it matters more how roles are defined and if the players buy in more than anything.

some of you really think Billups is some novice huh? He knows the NBA game, probably better than most as he’s played it, analyzed it, and now coached it.

Brooks is a better assistant than the blazers have had in recent memory. There’s nothing someone else could offer Billups’ transition to head coaching that Brooks couldn’t offer himself. If they thought they needed to surround Billups with multiple former head coaches, maybe he wasn’t the right choice to begin with. Because ultimately game plans and schemes are gonna be fall on his shoulders, and we’re gonna live and die by him.

How is it any different than Steve Nash? They gave him MDA/Vaughn...

I agree that it will all fall on Billups shoulders, but it's always helpful to have different perspectives that you can utilize for a sounding board.

Yeah I agree, but only former nba head coaches can provide different perspectives?

Hey we got a video coordinator who was once assistant video coordinator for the fantabulous San Antonio Spurs! What do you want, egg in your beer? (this was famously asked of a teacher in my 6th grade class by a little smart ass, I don't think I have ever seen a human being get so angry so fast as that teacher did).

Dame has already followed Edneisha Curry in IG. Clearly Dame is very involved in this process.

Especially when you're making the playoffs and rarely making high draft picks.

That's sarcasm right? He is following his new assistant coach on IG and that makes him "very involved" with hiring of assistant coaches? People around here are crazy if they think he's involved or consulted on that level. Is their one coach on our staff outside of Chauncey that anyone knows that Dame has had a solid relationship with? Is there any proof that he's even talked to these people considering he's busy with team USA?

If it was a joke, then I'm a fool for this post.

For the record I think there is a lot of "player development" coaches on the staff. I don't think that after we got Brooks we needed any additional veteran coaches to make up for Chauncey's relative coaching inexperience. So I'm cool with the list because I don't know them and I'm giving Chauncey the benefit of the doubt. The fact that all of the names outside of Brooks were development oriented seems like preparing for developing the young players we might have if we have to go with plan B if Dame demands a trade... because I think if Dame demands a trade we'll blow it up.

Why would it be a joke? I just mean he's still clearly invested in the moves HIS TEAM is still making. Like him following Greg Brown immediately after we drafted him. He's still cares enough about even seemingly insignificant moves.

I took "involved in the process" to mean what so many in here insinuate or flat out say, that Dame is running this team. That he says who comes and goes on every level. Yeah, I'm not surprised that he's still engaged. He said he wants to be here and the off season isn't over so I wouldn't expect him to disengage.
